As with the others, there's no talking. It's not really a "new" show. It's actually been done for several months. I think I did it last November or thereabouts, I just never got around to doing the web page for it. I found fairly quickly that putting together the shows is fun. It's time-comsuming but of the very best kind, since I'm listening to great music. Putting together the web page is a whole other story. That's a major pain in the butt, finding photos, resizing them, finding web pages, thinking of something to say...I hate that part of it, which is silly because I'm the one who set those tasks for myself from the very first show. Anyway, this is a weird one. I mean, really weird. Some people will probably hate it, while others who have my warped sensibility will enjoy it. I have several shows in various states of doneness up in the air. Maybe it won't be so long until the next one. I'd recommend Shimmering, Warm & Bright, but keep in mind with that recommendation that that's the only album of theirs I own. (On the other hand, I have a rather large collection of mp3s from their various albums, which were the reason I bought that specific album in the first place, being the one I'd judged most likely to appeal to me as a whole, so it's probably still a useful recommendation.) :) Cheers, Sander ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 May 2006 06:46:27 -0700 (PDT) From: Craig Gidney Subject: Re: Bel Canto Birds of Passage is good, too. The latter might be somewhat easier to find although I think neither is currently in print. Speaking of ectronica, I did happen to catch Petracovich when they (she?) played in Eugene on Sunday. In a bar. Petracovich is really not a bar band. I happened to run into other friends of mine there who were not there for Petracovich and they looked rather puzzled through most of the set, although they at least clapped politely at the end of each song. I have to admit that the live experience was really not that impressive, mainly because such ethereal, introspective music just doesn't fit such an environment very well. But I bought both "Blue Cotton Skin" and "We Are Wyoming" based mainly on the samples I heard on the Petracovich web site(s) and I really like them. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 May 2006 20:38:01 -0400 From: Michael Curry Subject: Take a train across Canada with Cowboy Junkies If you've always wanted to take a train ride across Canada, and if you're a fan of Cowboy Junkies, this might be the trip for you.... - -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Cowboy Junkies Junk Mail - May 30, 2006 Date: Tue, 30 May 2006 14:39:29 -0600 From: Cowboy Junkies To: mcurry@io.com Junk Mail June 1, 2006 Hello All: As you may have already gathered, the band is taking most of the summer off from the road and concentrating on recording the new CD, which we will have out sometime in 2007. We do have some news, however. We want to let everyone know we're going to have a very special Cowboy Junkies Train Trip from November 10 to 14, 2006. We're chartering a train from Toronto to Vancouver, we've invited along some of our favourite bands (Skydiggers, Blackie and the Rodeo Kings, Over the Rhine and Fred Eaglesmith), and it should be an amazing trip. Here's the setting: A tiny stage, dim lights, the clink of glasses and the hush of conversation gone silent; the first dreamy notes as musicians plug in... you're on a train across Canada with Cowboy Junkies and friends. Three days and nights of music on board the last great long-distance streamline train still operating in North America - Via Rail's legendary CANADIAN from Toronto to Vancouver. Click here for all the details: http://www.flyingunderradar.com/rails/cjtrain06.htm That's all for now. Have a great summer. We'll see you soon.
