Extremely interesting article, very much along the lines of what was discussed regarding Sandi Thom (apologies, here, for not giving credit where it's due, but at work I don't have access to my inbox and past e- mails, and my memory's appalling). Well worth a look for anybody interested in the future of music and its marketing. I was particularly interested, in a geeky way, in the list of formats at the end, and whether they were "hits" or "misses". While it grieves me to see my beloved mini-disc as a "miss" (well, even I've moved on) as one beginning to feel under pressure to look into SACD players -- a lot of my old bands are re- re-releasing their material for these -- I was surprised to find that they're listed under "miss". Curious, too, that it was the Guardian only a few days ago who were hyping up Lily Keith as being the "sound of the summer" in a cover article on G2. This time around they neglect to mention the family connection to actor/presenter/self-professed "rebel", Keith Allen, but it sure couldn't have hurt. On a more tangential note: I keep telling myself I should listen to the radio more often, and then perhaps I wouldn't be so drastically out of touch with all these "now" sounds (you kids with your hippity-hop and your guitar noise, I tell you...). I have yet to hear "Crazy" all the way through, having only heard snatches and excerpts. I think there's a lot to be said about being in tune with these things, because then they DO become part of your soundtrack, part of the life you're living at the time that these songs come out and then forever allied to your life at that time. I think if I did, then these songs -- Crazy in particular -- would have a lot more resonance with me. I speak as someone who, sadly(?) never even heard "Everything I do" or even "Mull of Kintyre" all the way through. A mixed blessing. adam k. - ----------------------------------------------- This mail sent through http://webmail.zoom.co.uk ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 May 2006 20:40:22 -0400 From: "F.J.Fornorn" Subject: amazon joking at kate's expense?
