You know what I want? Pre-marriage era Ani DiFranco. Her music turned to crap when she got married and it still hasn't recovered since she has divorced. Sigh. Nice enough voice, but to my ears listless and devoid of emotion. Never got her. I rather like their version, there's a short sample on their website in the "muzyka" section. http://www.milczenieowiec.pl/ I've gotten Madonna once in a while.. I remember liking her first hit Borderline, and a few songs since, but for the most part she's always alluded me.. seems like she's got the talent, but misdirects it, for example that video where she's in the limo wearing a cowboy hat, and of course her cover of American Pie.. what the.... was that supposed to be? > From: Bernie Mojzes > Subject: Re: things we don't get...(madonna) > > i never "got" madonna either, and i especially don't get the new > kabbalistic madonna..... ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 May 2006 13:15:58 -0700 From: Kmeelyon Subject: some new finds/recommendations Hey all, I've been in read only mode for awhile because I didn't like that this list had archived messages that were searchable on the web. So that kept me from posting. But I've been listening to some stuff that is way too good to keep to myself: 1) Winterpills http://www.winterpills.com/ Stumbled across this band last December and instantly fell in love after listening to the music player on their site. Within ten minutes I'd bought their album off of itunes. Sometimes sounds a little bit CSNY. 2) Margot and the Nuclear So and So's http://www.margotandthenuclearsoandsos.com/ A friend burned me this cd recently and I can't stop listening to it. Also has a music player on their site. Maybe a little more rock/indie than some of you might like. Current favorite song: "On a Freezing Chicago Street." 3) Vervein http://www.vervein.com/ Can hear a few songs on their site. Think something Cocteau Twins-ish mixed with some of the muddyness of the Spinanes (another favorite group). Would love to hear what some of you think of these. - --K ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 May 2006 13:21:41 -0700 From: Kmeelyon Subject: Re: things we don't get Re: the Natalie Merchant cover of "Because the Night," maybe if it was the first time I'd heard the song, I'd think it was pleasant. But for me, the scandal was in turning Patti Smith's gorgeous soulful song into muzac. It pains me every time I hear it! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 May 2006 21:25:59 -0400 From: Michael Curry Subject: Emily Bezar in SF, London and Malta! - -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Emily Bezar Trio: early show in SF on Th. They have four or five Siberry albums, albeit with a few tracks missing. Myself, I rarely buy DRM'd music and usually just order the CD from Amazon or CD Baby and then rip it into iTunes. I like being able to do with my music what I like when I like. Eric Volker ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V12 #131 ***************************
