Lyrically and musically boring. and the >video made me cringe (people around the world are inspired to sing along, >aww). "sing" is sort of a departure for the dolls. it's certainly the odd song out on the record. i don't dislike it and usually get into it as it goes along but it's not a favorite or anything. i'm not video-oriented by any means but i thought the video was fine. however, my scale for videos goes from sucks to neutral, with a very few excellent ones, so i'm probably not the best judge. i guess i'm a little partial tto since i heard many stories from its filming. fans were invited to be in the taping -- though, as it turned out, that footage was dropped from the final version -- and many of them have posted about the event on the dolls forum. >Anyone heard any of their other new songs? i've heard the whole record. it's a lot more raw and direct than the last record and captures more of their live show rock feel than the cabaret feel of the last album. i still don't think their studio efforts match their performances but _yes, virginia..._ gets a lot closer than the self-titled effort. >Backstabber didn't strike me much >live, but it had energy. i dunno who you can say that backstabber doesn't strike you as much though -- it's one of the best songs on the new record (imho) and has been a favorite since it first heard it live a few years ago! >Their karaoke verite Avril Lavigne video, however, is a joy. Hell, the >song's more interesting than Sing. you know, i don't think i've ever watched that. i dunno what's up with amander's fascination with that song. or avril in general. some things, man was not meant to know. ;) woj ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Apr 2006 20:26:25 -0400 From: wojizzle forizzle Subject: kate bush under review dvd hmmm. dunno if this is some sort of bootleg dvd release or what exactly. a press release about it has been posted in several places: http://www.antimusic.com/news/06/april/1204.shtml http://www.digitallyobsessed.com/showrelease.php3?ID=6512 http://caustictruths.com/website/content/view/1552/2/ and a google search turns up mvd's product page about the dvd: http://mvdb2b.com/cgi-bin/netlink?SESSION_NO=DDBBLLMO&STOCK_NO=SIDVD502&REQUEST_ID=CSTKDET here's the text from the press release: (MVD) MVD and Sexy Intellectual are pleased to announce the home viewing release of two new DVD titles in the "Under Review" Series for US distribution on DVD. Other artists they've covered include the Velvet Underground, Syd Barrett, the Small Faces and Captain Beefheart. According to a press release, they "mix interview and performance footage with review and comment from experts and critics." OK, I just checked out the label's (Music Video Distributors) web site and they also release such, uh, high class titles as "Girls Gone Crazy" and "Flashers!" Unfortunately I suspect those sell a lot more copies than the music releases... - --Sue ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V12 #97 **************************
