The video of the first single, "Again and Again" can be seen at her website--www.jeweljk.com. While it's no big departure for Jewel, it's a fairly catchy song, though not one of my favorites. The album sounds somewhat promising--definitely more of a return to her earlier style than the dance-oriented stuff from the last album. I must say she's looking better than ever. From the track listing, it looks like there may be some old favorites on the album, or Jewel may have just recycled some titles as she's been known to do: 1. Again and Again 2. Long Slow Slide 3. Goodbye Alice in Wonderland 4. Good Day 5. Satellite 6. Only One Too 7. Words Get In the Way 8. Drive To You 9. Last Dance Rodeo 10. Fragile Heart 11. Stephenville, TX 12. Where You Are 13. 10000 Miles Away Some of you Jewel fans from way back may remember Joy Eden Harrison--who performed with Jewel at some of the early InnerChange Coffeehouse shows. She now lives in Chicago and has a very good release titled Venus Blue out now. It's no great departure--more of a return to her first album, Angel Town, though than the Cindylee Berryhill produced album Unspoken. Though this one isn't quite as jazzy as Angel Town and is a bit more atmospheric. Tom McRae also has a new album out--All Maps Welcome. I'd say its definitely closer to his first release, than the rather disappointing second release. So far I'm loving it--it's only available as an import so far. And I also got a new release from Lisa Gerrard, co-writing with Jeff Rona. It's a soundtrack to a film that debuted at Sundance but as far as I know hasn't yet been released called A Thousand Roads. It also features several Native American bands, like Ulali, R. Carlos Nakai and John Trudell. I really like it--definitely typical Lisa Gerrard work, but mixes nicely with the more traditional Native American influences. The screenplay for the movie was co-written by poet Joy Harjo. I also see that Lisa Gerrard did some of the sountrack for the recent TV version of Salem's Lot. Somehow that once escaped me. Anyone familiar with that? For you die-hard Alison Moyet fans, she appears on the Moby single for Slipping Away doing backing vocals--but unless you're a huge fan it's probably not worth buying just for her, as her vocals aren't real prominent in the mix--definitely recognizable, but hardly stand out. (She does not appear on the album version of the song.) Wendy Rule also has a new one coming out late April--The Wolf Sky. Hopefully it will be out in time for her North American. tour--I'm planning on catching the Denver show, but she'll be also be appearing in LA, Detroit, New York, Connecticut, and Western Massachusetts, New York and Montreal. If you've never seen her, I highly recommend it--she's not the best guitarist, but the vocals are incredible! No cellist on this tour though. :( She then hits Europe--so far London, Glastonbury, and Bradford on Avon and Berlin are on the tour. Well, that's some of the stuff that's been keeping my ears entertained lately--and a few I'm looking forward to. Jeff Hanson n.p. Haris Alexiou - Anthonology - Disc 1 n.r. Interesting to see that Jewel is still mining songs from a decade or so ago. There were so many great songs back then, it's kind of cool to see more of them re-emerging. Fragile Heart I'm guessing this one is the Fragile Heart from the 1996-1998 time frame. There was a song called "Fragile Heart" on her 0304 album, but it was a totally different song. Ironically though, the "newer" Fragile Heart was by far my favorite song on 0304 as it most was reminiscient of "early" Jewel. I might check out the new Joy Eden Harrison CD too. (assuming her website is still around. It won't be in any stores in my area. Mike Mike ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V12 #81 **************************
