Those of you who were dismayed by the excessively Flash-intensive web site at http://thehighviolets.com may be happy to know that it's not so bad any more, and in fact seems to be Flash-free. What I heard via their myspace.com page sounded really intriguing, and they've been spoken well of here (some of which now appears on the ectoguide.org page), which did a lot to encourage me to get out to see them. Unfortunately the live show was a little disappointing, partly because it seemed like kind of a short set, but mostly because Kaitlyn ni Donovan barely sang at all -- I think I spotted her doing backing vocals for a bit but the bassist and guitarist seemed to do almost all of the singing. However, I did have a chance to pick up both of their CDs, and that made the whole trip worthwhile, as Kaitlyn ni Donovan does almost all of the the singing on those and the music and vocals are marvelous. I find myself more taken by the more recent release _To Where You Are_, which is catchier and more energetic than _44 down_ and so has occupied more of my listening time. I chatted for a bit with the fellow selling the CDs who introduced himself as Clint, and then when I got them home and looked inside them at the band photos I realized he was probably the Clint Sargent who is credited on both albums, but who actually didn't play at this show. Also, I recognized another guy who I had seen playing pool as probably being the Aaron Overstreet who played bass on _To Where You Are_ but also didn't play at this show. I have no idea who was playing guitar and bass in this show since they didn't do introductions. Anyway, I highly recommend both _44 down_ and _To Where You Are_ as ectolicious stuff. http://thehighviolets.com has downloadable MP3s of "Sun Baby" from _To Where You Are_ and "44 down" from _44 down_, and if you can run the myspace.com Flash-based music player the link to their myspace.com page will get you a few more non-downloadable tracks. You can order the full albums on-line from http://www.reverbrecords.net. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 27 Mar 2006 03:00:07 -0500 (EST) From: Mike Matthews Subject: Today's your birthday, friend... i*i*i*i*i*i i*i*i*i*i*i *************** *****HAPPY********* **************BIRTHDAY********* *************************************************** *************************************************************************** ********************** Tom Proven (no Email address) ********************** *************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- - -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Tom Proven Sat March 27 1971 Eat at Joe's Jennifer Albert Wed March 30 1966 Aries (w/Cancer rising!:) Warpaint Mon April 01 1991 Brilliant!
