Our very own Michael Colford's Chlotrudis Awards always has one of the most interesting slate of nominations around. Some years I haven't seen any or hardly any of the nominees, and other years I've seen several. This year I haven't seen more than I have, because I was in music mode for much of the year. I missed way too many, I hate to admit. Big ones too, like Nobody Knows, Murderball, Downfall, Grizzly Man and 2046. Some I'm not sure have even opened here yet, like Wilby Wonderful, Kings and Queen, and Nine Lives. If they did I'm sorry I missed them. I am proud to report that I've seen 3 of the "Buried Treasure" films: Torremolinos 73, Tropical Malady and Whisky. My only disappointment is the absence of Amy Adams in the Supporting Actress category. How did the Academy get that so right and Chlotrudis overlook her? The biggest thrill is seeing that someone remembered In The Realms of the Unreal. Good for you guys! I loved that movie. I've only seen: Brokeback Mountain Capote Me & You & Everyone We Know Good Night, and Good Luck The Squid and the Whale Broken Flowers Born Into Brothels In The Realms of the Unreal Torremolinos 73 Tropical Malady Whisky Now that I've listed them, it's worse than I thought it was, considering I'm a movie lover who lives in a big city with access to films. I'll have to try harder this coming year. I'm very lucky to live where I do so I need to take better advantage of it. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 Feb 2006 07:35:15 -0500 From: "Michael Colford" Subject: RE: 2006 Chlotrudis Awards nominations (an Ectophile achievement!) Thanks so much to Vicky for posting about this year's Chlotrudis Awards! I am really impressed, Vicky, that you have seen three of this year's Buried Treasure nominations. That's pretty amazing! As for Amy Adams, she was definitely in the running; it was just that for some reason, despite all the acclaim she was getting, not enough people on our Nominating Committee ended up seeing JUNEBUG to get her on the ballot. We're working on getting the guests lined up for the Awards Ceremony this year, always one of the more exciting tasks we do at this time of year. And remember, if you're into independent and international film, Chlotrudis membership is open to anyone! (Vicky. you'd be most welcome, although you probably are just so busy, that one more organization would put you over the edge!) :-) Visit http://www.chlotrudis.org/organization/membership to find out how to join (and what you get for joining.)
