I am delighted to announce that my new album 'Blackthorn', an album of Irish love songs, has arrived. Many of you know that my good friend and musical partner Johnny Cunningham died just hours after recording his last fiddle performance for my album 'Sweet Liberty'. Through his death, and the subsequent memorial concert tour of his music, I became good friends with Johnny's brother Phil, and it was on this tour that Phil played me music from Asturias and The Basque Country, where he had recently produced some recordings. Hearing this music gave me the idea of how to begin recording my next album, and brought me to record it in Asturias, The Basque Country, Ireland and New York. Also, in life I had been thinking a lot about Love, and so I was drawn to songs about love and attraction. The result is 'Blackthorn', an album of songs mostly in Gaelic, which I recorded with the musical contributions of Xuaca Amieva, Cormac Breatnach, Edmar Castenada, Rsismn Chambers, Steve Cooney, Robbie Harris, Lindsey Horner, Dana Lyn, Harkaitz Martinez, Don Meade, Eamon O'Leary & Igor Oxtoa. Thanks to the trusty folks running my website, you can now go to www.susanmckeown.com to listen to samples of each track from the album, and go ahead and purchase pre-release copies of the album through the site which will be mailed to you immediately. (The official album release date is March 14th.) Additionally, you may want to surf over simply to take a look at the work that Coos de Graaf and June Kosloff have been doing putting together a new site for me which includes a bunch of new photos (of me) by photo-journalist Peter Foley. In other news, last weekend I performed at a conference on Irish singing at NYU's Ireland House, and enjoyed providing vocal accompaniment for the New York Theatre Ballet's production of James Joyce's 'The Dead', choreographed by Clove Galilee. I am currently in the studio recording with The Klezmatics. Upcoming dates can be found below, and at the website.
