hi folks!
so a friend pointed out leslie feist to me a while ago, and i'm
intrigued. but does anyone know what's up with all the different
versions of `let it die'? looking on amazon.ca and amazon.com, there
seem to be at least four distinct versions, with two different cover
designs between them. does anyone know which is the one to get?
also, i'm looking at picking up christine fellows' previous release (i
still can't get over the fact that i didn't really know about her
until i bought paper anniversary on a whim) and simon wilcox's latest
(too bad both their earliest releases are no longer available - i'll
have to keep watch at zulu). anything else interesting i ought to
check out at maplemusic.com while i'm at it?

I'm fuming. I've just read of one of a great double-bill, one that I would
crawl over broken glass for: Bob Mould, doing an acoustic set (which I'd love
to see, as his full band, electronic excursions have always flattened out the
subtleties in his fine songwriting with squall) and opening for him....Sandy
Dillon!!! At Dingwalls/Lock 17, which is just down the road from me!!! What a
great night that would be. I, however, will be otherwise engaged that night,
up in a small studio theatre in Hackney (for our American friends, think
Detroit without the glamour). Fuming, I tell you.
Meanwhile, my last ecto digest was blocked by my server's spam filter. I can
only think it was the result of Mr Jimmy Kimmel's name being used, as this also
happens to be my surname. I must have created a rule that equates Kimmel with
pornography and blocked it (won't be the first time, I'm sure)It's nice to
know, however, that one of us has made it big (and, in case ANYONE, by any mad
chance is wondering, I am no relation to the director of photography.
The Perfect Vacuum -- I still have a copy of that, somewhere, that I bought at
the Strand bookship in NYC about 25 years ago. Liked the idea, but never got
through all the reviews. When I was in High School I used to write reviews of
non-existent films which I'd hand in for my weekly creative writing homework.
I suspect they were dreadful, but I do know that some special effects that I
used to imagine, ludicrous and far fetched back then, are now achievable.
Oh, and Pandora sounds great, although it was baffled by Veda Hille. After I
typed in Thea Gilmore, I got some really interesting stuff which I hope to
follow up on (amy rigby and lois, for instance). Unfortunately, I don't think
my fellow workers appreciated the gentle hum of music coming from my speakers.

I was in a Dollar Tree store (retail store where everything costs a
buck) and what did I hear start playing over the store speakers but
Sam Phillips singing "I Can't Please You". Wow, what a moment! One
of my fave songs from one of my fave musicans...and such a rarely
heard musician at that.
Rod Serling, are you watching over my shoulder?

Almost as bizzare as the time I was in a supermarket and they were playing
the muzak version of "Maxwell's Silver Hammer".

Wow, cool.
Yesterday I was in a local shop and just about fell over when Kate
Bush's "Somewhere In Between" started playing. Turns out the shop
(owned by a friend of mine) has XM for its music, and they keep it on a
channel called "The Loft" that plays very ectophilic stuff. Just in the
time I was in there, besides Kate I heard Feist's "Mushaboom" and Fiona
Apple's "Extraordinary Machine". Needless to say, I was impressed. :)

Just saw on Amazon yesterday that Tori's first DVD video collection, Fade
to Red, will be released on Feb. 14. Apparently it includes everything
on the previous video collection and all the subsequent videos, though
review say that it's missing videos for "Mary," "Strange Little Girl,"
"Glory of the 80s," and Jackie's Strength - Wedding Cake Edit." Anyway,
thought folks here would be interested. Full listing is below. JoAnn Disc
1:
* Past the Mission
* Crucify
* Jackie's Strength
* a sorta fairytale
* Winter
* Spark
* Sleeps with Butterflies
* Cornflake Girl (US)
* Hey Jupiter
* Silent All These Years
Disc 2:
* Caught a Lite Sneeze
* 1000 Oceans
* God
* Bliss
* China
* Raspberry Swirl
* Talula
* Sweet the Sting
* Pretty Good Year
Plus Bonus tracks:
* Professional Widow (Remixed)
* Cornflake Girl (UK Version)
