Liked: sideways goblet of fire a history of violence(cronenberg's most mainstream fil, but that's not saying much) narnia (yes. it worked well though it seemed a little too much aimed at the lord of the rings audience.) corpse bride charlie and the chocolate factory closer(clive owen should have been bond) sin city (cartoonish and ultra-violent,worked well for me) hated: batman begins so many cliches in one film. and still it got rave reviews. anna __________________________________________ Yahoo! I should probably work on such a list, just as soon as I finish watching my shiny _Serenity_ DVD again, and again, and maybe once more, and to heck with the plot holes... That's a coincidence, those are the very two DVDs we watched on Christmas Day, and our reaction was exactly the same. We really wondered how so many reviewers could all give Batman Begins such high praise. What a groaner...but Sideways was good. The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill ended up being one of my favorites of the year. I thought it was better on an emotional level than March of the Penguins, which of course took all the glory as the breakout nature documentary hit of 2005. On that note, I'll be spending time with some penguins up close next week as I'm off on an Antarctic expedition with Leif that was planned even before that movie came along. We'll also be spending a few days in Buenos Aires en route. Is anyone here familiar with that city? We don't really have those days fully planned yet so if anyone has suggestions on things to see or do that aren't in the tourist guides I'd love hear about them! What a groaner...but Sideways was good. Really? I loved it. I saw it in the theater, then rented it, then got it for Christmas. This is the first I've heard of anyone not liking it! I thought it was dark and cool and Christian Bale? Hottie? I wish Katie Holmes would quit screwing up her mouth to look cute, but other than that I thought it was great. Not, maybe, Oscar quality, I mean, it's no "English Patient" or anything, but I thought it was quite enjoyable. :) By the way, I have not seen "The English Patient" I just randomly chose a movie that I think got some nominations. Sideways was good too but a completely different thing. I can't compare them to each other. Also wasn't that last year? Didn't it win Oscars in 2004? I mean, not that you can't have it on your list this year. I just wonder why everyone's talking about it now. Maybe it just came out in Europe? Of all the ones Anna Maria mentioned she liked I like all that I've seen, but have not seen them all. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Dec 2005 10:17:21 -0600 From: "Collected Sounds" <2345@collectedsounds.com> Subject: RE: CD Review idea > When reviewing CDs, magazines and newspapers should either > (a) note the presence copy control on the CD, like a warning, or > better yet, > (b) refuse to review CDs that have DRM > > thoughts? is this realistic? For what it's worth, when I do reviews I do mention that the disc is copy protected if I know it is. And there have been times when I've been so ticked that I have not reviewed it too. Then I sometimes direct people to CDex where they can copy even copy-protected ones. CDEx has only met two CDs (out of literally hundreds I've done) it could not copy and they were both advance copies. Jonatha Brooke and Anna Nalick in case anyone is interested. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Dec 2005 11:21:13 -0800 (PST) From: angiegamgee@jherusalem.com Subject: RE: films of the year Has anyone seen Memoirs of a Geisha yet? Oh, wow. That is *so* cool!!! When I was in high school one of my teachers went on one of those expeditions -- it was a life-altering experience for her. I'm not a big fan of Batman franchise or indeed of comics-based movies in general, but I thought this one was reasonably well done and had a consistent look to it, even if it wasn't perhaps the most original look any more. I might also mention TV show of the year: Six Feet Under. And the most anticipated TV show of the new year: The Sopranos. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Dec 2005 20:51:49 -0500 From: Dave Subject: Re: mystery woman Here's a possible.. http://www.ksenia-nosikova.com/ > Date: Tue, 27 Dec 2005 19:42:19 +0000 > From: "=?iso-8859-1?Q?Collected=20Sounds?=" <2345@collectedsounds.com> > Subject: Ready for a mystery? > > OK so I got an email from a perosn who is trying to track down a CD by an artist.
