I can't believe it's been 25 years tonight since John Lennon was taken from us. I still remember vividly Howard Cosell breaking the news to a lot of the world via the broadcast of Monday Night football. John, wherever you are, thanks for the music. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 08 Dec 2005 18:48:47 +0100 From: Sander Subject: Re: Another - different - Sony vulnerability, included on Imogen Heap's "Speak for Yourself" Sander wrote: > uninstall: http://www.sunncomm.com/support/tools/uninstall.asp (IE only) However, it now turns out this uninstaller is insecure in itself, as is the patch that was purported to fix the vulnerability: http://www.freedom-to-tinker.com/?p=942 - which recommends NOT running either. Uhm... I really don't know what to say or recommend anymore. Except that I'm very glad no one on the list so far seems to be infected by this. (Note btw that this page confirms the problem about this thing installing even if you declined the EULA.) Um, actually I was playing this album on my computer at work yesterday before reading about all this. I guess I'll tell our IT people and let them handle it. And I can't remember if I ever played it on my computer at home or not, so I'm a bit worried about that too. Serves me right for being too cheap to order from Imogen directly. I guess I will have to start waiting for things to come out in stores so I can check copy protection status before ordering online. I don't have a problem supporting an outfit like CDBaby, 'cause they have a place, too, but I bought the most recent from Immi herself, so's I could get an autographed copy... I wanted Speak for Yourself, as well as Fires by Nerina Pallot, so I bought both at the same time on amazon.co.uk and saved on combined shipping. I saw the US version on a store shelf in Asheville, NC and cringed when I saw the copy protection label. Apparently not only does it prevent you from copying the music to your iPod (or any non-WMA MP3 player), it also installs malware on your PC. That definitely would've kept me from buying the US version. That said, the album was well worth the extra postage and I would encourage others to buy this excellent album from an uncontaminated source. ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V11 #337 ***************************
