(i'm assuming neile went. :) i also got to see vienna teng on the 8th last month, at the same venue (the media club) and she floored me too. both of vienna's albums took a while to grow on me (actually the second still hadn't entirely until after this show - now i can't stop listening) so i was a little trepidatious going in, but i'm grateful i went anyway. i was very impressed that she got a vancouver audience to sing backing vocals on `soon love soon' all the way to the end without flagging (actually, jorane did pretty well in that department too). her set was very quiet and she had everyone eating out of the palm of her hand - to the point where a glass clanking at the bar in the back became a major distraction. she was obviously a hit, and i'm hooked now in a way i wasn't before. and the image of a delicate little asian woman telling a crowded room to imagine her as a big, burly trucker (during `homecoming') will stick with me for a long time. while i'm at it, i'll mention melissa ferrick's show on oct 15 as well - - also a huge success in my mind. i cannot believe the energy and raw emotion melissa brings to her performances each and every time. i think she's made out of energy and nerves. she also picks the best opening acts to tour with - this time it was natalia zukerman, whose name i remembered seeing on ecto though i'd never heard her before. last time i saw her (early this year) it was garrison starr, who was previously unknown to me but both keri and i were impressed enough to buy her album (she was better live, but the album is good). i also noticed when melissa was out in toronto, she had arlene bishop opening for her - i was very seriously considering a trip out east just to see that (well, and visit some friends) - i have a feeling arlene is not someone who ever tours widely and i would have loved to see that. ah well. was anyone on ecto at that concert? ok, not delving any further back into the concertgoing history... - -damon - -- dl+ecto@usrbin.ca: protecting my real address since 2002 (too late!) > EWS starts here! < ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Dec 2005 09:08:50 +0000 From: adamk@zoom.co.uk Subject: Sarah Harmer UK release and Selina Martin Anybody know what the UK release date is for Sarah's new one, or if there is a UK release date? Meanwhile, does anybody know anything about another Canadian artist, Selina Martin? She does guest vocals on a track on Veda's latest, and her voice just thrills me -- really strong and expressive. I see she's got an album out via Maple Music, but has anyone heard any of her own material? adam k. - ----------------------------------------------- This mail sent through http://webmail.zoom.co.uk ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Dec 2005 02:53:01 -0800 (PST) From: anna maria "stjärnell" Subject: kate Hi.. having lived with aerial for a few weeks i must say it's good, but not like hol or the dreaming good. it's just better than your averege record..it's a little sad even if kate's still an icon.
