The main bands on the bill are Mira Flores and Amelia (both bands, not women's names). Have they been discussed here before? I don't know I just returned to the list (really because I wanted to see what you all thought of the Kate Bush album, but I think I must have missed that thread already, I'll try to go back to the archives). Also playing there that night at Ed Haynes, Jim Brunberg and Raina Rose. Anyway, there are often great show at Mississippi Studios (tonight was Laura Love). Tuesday is Jorane. http://www.mississippistudios.com/ http://www.aladdin-theater.com/ http://www.wonderballroom.com/ http://www.ameliaband.com/ http://www.mirafloresmusic.net/ http://www.rainarose.com/ I promote some concerts in Portland (though I don't have any myself in the next month), though in January I have Beth Amsel and Carmina Luna. If anyone here is in area and wants to be on my email list, let me know. Anyone here familiar with Carmina Luna (or is predecessor, Carmina Piranha) or Lara Michell (one of the members)? Or Dirty Martini? :) Jess ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 21 Nov 2005 04:17:16 -0800 From: "The Ectophiles' Guide" Subject: Recent changes to the Ectophiles' Guide Latest changes to the Ectophiles' Guide 20 November 2005 New Guide entries added for: * Katy Carr * Agnes Buen Garnas * Inga Liljestrom * that dog. I must admit to a strange feeling writing a message here. It must be at least nine or ten years since my last one, back in the aftermath of my ecto world tour 1993/4. I went back into the archives to read some of my messages from back then, which is always good for a laugh ;) I was also somewhat pleasantly surprised to find (after a cursory scan of this years archive) that I'm still on the birthday list ;) What has really brought it all back, however, is the new Kate album, which I now have playing on my CD player. It brought back memories of the Kate-con in 1994 after The Red Shoes, and the gathering in Cambridge (I think that's where it was). The serendipity is astounding however, as by some freak of coincidence, I am in Holland again, as I was for the release of The Red Shoes. So, hello to anyone who still remembers that far in the past! For those that don't, I normally live in Melbourne Australia, but my family and I are currently living in Enschede, Holland until next February. My wife, Margreta, is Dutch, and an academic at Melbourne University (does research in coding theory) and is on sabbatical, working with a colleague at Twente University. We have two children, Daniel (4) and Leona (2). As I write it I realise that almost all of that is new information, even for the "older" members here ;) I must say that Aerial is a fabulous album, and I have had it on pretty constantly since it was released. I play the second disk (Sky) the most and I really like "Sunset", beautiful melody, enhanced by the wonderful Celtic rhythms that kick in halfway through. At least I think they're Celtic. Margreta thought they were Spanish! I can hear echoes of all of her previous albums in this one too, which is interesting. Mrs Bartoluzzi reminds me of TKI, for example. So there you have it, It's good to be back. I'll probably go and lurk for a while now. My source is the woman who runs darwilliams.net, and she received the dates today from Dar's manager. The gig nearest us is London on a Wednesday. Welcome back Chris - and Jess! Funny how people keep returning to ecto. The list has changed a lot over the years, but I bet many of your ectohostel hosts are still here. Thanks for sharing the "new" info too. You've just missed a lot of Kate discussion, but I'm with you. I like the second album better. neal ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 21 Nov 2005 14:43:22 -0800 From: Greg Bossert Subject: Re: Well well well, what's going on 'ere then ...
