It's still in-process but I've got a big chunk of it done. One area of Ecto interest may be the music section. I've put up downloadable MP3 files of some recent studio and live recordings of bellydance-related music by myself and my group, Tarab. The live stuff is from our new CD recorded in October, 2005 at our weekly (Sunday nights) gig with the dancer Ishani, at Hookah Joe's in Asheville, NC. It is titled (imaginatively enough) "Live at Hookah Joe's". We are lucky enough to have been joined at many of those show by the incredible vocalist, Sage. Imagine the fairy love-child of Lisa Gerard and the blue alien opera singer from the movie "The Fifth Element". Also up there is some of my music for solo lavta (Turkish Lute) and synthesizer. The synth piece, Five Paths, has a dark middle-eastern feel and is in 5/8 time (again with the "imaginative" titles). The older electronic pieces from the old website are there too. Anyway, the music can be found at... http://www.stackdigital.com/music.html Info on Tarab at... http://www.stackdigital.com/tarab/index.html Check out the Journal section for an interesting performance-related story... http://www.stackdigital.com/journal.html As I said, the site is still very much under construction so please don't mind the debris. A lot is missing and what is there now will be expanded. I hope you enjoy it. More importantly, they're pulling the CDs that do have the rootkit and are offering to swap discs that consumers purchased [3]. And no, to your question of me.....misspelling....First of all, the album re-mastered is great, I still can't believe it's off of a mini disc and was unplanned and just sitting recording at your house...it's so pristine! It sounds just lovely. Second, the cover art was so cool (each year at burning man I do a naked dance underneath a giant white cloth that blows in the wind, and i was captured on the playa, it's a ritual I do out there for myself)...it seemed a good idea to match the words Edgewalking Blind with an unseeing clothed dancer so I really didn't want the front to have any words. I compromised by saying only Edgewalking Blind, & Cyoakha Grace, just so folks knew it was still 3 of the Land of the Blind musicians. Inside cover states the info and says "recorded live at Michael's in PDXS" and the name of the songs, & who Edgewalking is (me, Regina and Krystov)...and that's all the room there was due to more crazy naked silly burning man art inside... the funniest thing about the cd is this, the cover is arty and beautiful, the inside art silly and fun, the music beautiful, mellow and haunting...but we didn't have anything planned for the disc art and time was crunching us pre-NW tour...so at the last minute we used a topless photo of me riding across the playa, funny to me because I'm in a top hat and skirt on a bike in the middle of nowhere...but I was a little uncomfortable with being topless...not a big deal out at burning man but I certainly didn't want anyone to think I was using a nude to get attention for my music, I hate sexy covers....So I tried to hide my boobs by placement of me peeking out from behind the area in the middle of the cd that is never printed, the little dark circle in the middle.I worked so just my face and top hat were peeking out. But when I picked up the finished project on the way to tour up to Eugene for the Witches Ball was I surprised to open them and go...."ahhhhhggg, noooo, my tits"...ha ha!!! Well, it turned out we were using the on line template for "silver-backed" cds....which is what they usually use, my pressing plant. But because it was a black and white photo, on their own, they decided to coat the cd with white to show off the photos better (and in a sick twist of irony, even charged me more!) so there I am, Tits La Rue, Ms Boobiekins...so the jokes on me....ha ha...Oh well, it's only breasts. Anyway, the cd is great, and thank you again for hosting us at your house for our second house concert (Meth was our first). And for my ECTO list friends, I wanted to do a special price for long term listeners, on the brand new Edgewalking Blind, recorded live at Michael's house in Portland last Oct. Edgewalking Blind is the new trio from Land of the Blind with Cyoakha Grace on vocals, keys, harmonium and live looping. Regina LaRocca on beautiful acoustic guitar played Middle Eastern picking style. Krystov on didgeridoo and mini disc recording. It's a beautiful album, very ecto, very mellow, uber chill, long dreamy songs (most of them 8 minutes or longer!). It's going onto CD Baby this week for $15, and you can order it there if you need to use a card, but for this list only, IF people still write checks, it's a special for $10 shipped! (ecto folks only) Make checks out to Land of the Blind, PO Box 198, Mill Valley, CA 94942, include address if different from check...shipped imm....and as I said, sorry, the art is rated R, for rank toplessness...and has no nudity warning for children on cover....tee hee peace, cyoakha >I hope you didn't misspell my name on the CD cover, did you? > >Michael PEArce ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 Nov 2005 20:51:08 -0800 From: Bowen Simmons Subject: More on Sony From: http://news.com.com/Sony+recalls+risky+rootkit+CDs/ 2100-7349_3-5954154.html?tag=nefd.top "Record label Sony BMG Music Entertainment said Tuesday that it will recall millions of CDs that, if played in a consumer's PC disc drive, will expose the computer to serious security risks." Now that's gotta hurt - a worldwide recall of 4.7 million CD's. Sony richly deserved it of course. I was in the software business for twenty years; and almost everything about Sony's product would have raised a huge red flag for every company I worked for: (1) Unauthorized operating system patch. (2) No version control or management. (3) Spying on customers and phoning back information about them without their knowledge or permission. (4) No uninstall (and no, a web site form that makes you jump through hoops to request an uninstall definitely doesn't count). Just one of these is almost guaranteed to backfire horribly; doing all four is a real triumph of management stupidity. Sometimes when I think about this situation, I wonder if there was an anti-DRM activist/mole behind it, actively making the situation as bad as possible in order to call media attention to the cause. Boss: Get DRM on our CDs so our customers won't steal from us. Mole: Heh. You want DRM? HERE'S your DRM! Heh heh heh.
