It is a little list that she sent to pop up on the site as a little feature. I will also be posting an interview with Charlotte in the coming weeks if anyone is interested. Kathy Haggerty's interview (http://www.cuttingedgevoices.com/kathyhaggerty.htm ) was just posted last night and it makes a good read as well. Here is a link to the 20 things that Charlotte sent me: http://www.cuttingedgevoices.com/charlottemartintop20.htm Still looking for reviewers if anyone on the list is interested in reviewing female vocalists/musicians CDs. Just drop me an e-mail and we can discuss it. I like it better than anything else she's ever done. meth is going to do a spit-take when she hears Charlotte's almost direct take of "Father Lucifer" (in the song "Bones" which I think Char should definitely leave off the album to avoid possible litigation), but beside that, it's full of excellent songs. "Veins" and "Under The Gravel Skies" are my favorites. - --- wojizzle forizzle wrote: > and in case anyone didn't know, there are a bunch > of live recordings of charlotte martin up on the > live music archive. all of them are in lossless > (shn/flac) and many have mp3 files available as > well. i uploaded the june nyc show last night and > a couple shows for her current fall gigs are already > there as well. check 'em out if you are so inclined... > > http://www.archive.org/audio/etreelisting-browse.php?cat=Charlotte%20Martin I haven't been there yet, but if you (or anyone) ever sees the Schubas/Chicago October 26, 2005 show anywhere, grab it (and email me pronto, please). Not only was it an amazing show with just Charlotte and her piano and a synth she called the Viper, she also covered "100 Years" by Happy. Beautifully, I might add. She even said it was by Happy Rhodes and that it was a request (from guess who?) We were going to tape the show but then when we got there found out that the battery was wonky. It was supposed to have a full charge but had leaked (or whatever it is batteries do when they lose their charge. It wouldn't have lasted a full song, so we kept it off until Char started "100 Years" (we missed the beginning) which Char segued beautifully into "Steel" but we had to turn it off and didn't get that fantastic song. Chris is supposed to make me an mp3 but hasn't yet. Since it's missing the beginning and the end, it's pretty worthless, but I'll always have it as proof that Charlotte Martin actually really honest-to-god did in fact cover Happy Rhodes. Anyway, I'd love to have the whole show, because it's one of the best I've ever been to, but I don't think anyone else recorded it. After the show I gave Char a bunch of Happy's earlier CDs (I, II, Rearmament, and Equipoise) so maybe at some point we'll hear other songs. I couldn't ask for a better person, so sweet, so talented, so passionate about music, and so supportive of other artists, to cover Happy's music. I heart Charlotte Martin! N. Dominick" Subject: Ripping "Equipoise" Q, and a bit about Aerial... Hey, has anyone had a problem ripping Equipoise? I've tried with iTunes and CDex, and I seem to remember having a similar problem once with cdparanoia under Linux -- it seems okay 'til the last bit of Mother Sea, and then I Say is totally corrupted and skippy. Thought it was my copy, which has what looks like embedded fingerprints on the label side of the CD and spots on the other -- plays fine in a CD player, though -- but fleur's pristine-looking copy also fouls up in the same way. By the way, for those worried about DRM on Aerial -- don't be, there isn't any. Both discs have the CD logo, and they ripped with no problems. We pre-ordered from the Sony web store and it arrived earlier today. - --r. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 6 Nov 2005 01:19:15 -0500 From: Jeffrey Burka Subject: charlotte martin in dc well, okay, at Jammin' Java in vienna, va. great show...first time I've seen her live, though I've had her demo disc (the one she was selling before the Test Drive Songs ep) for years. That voice is amazing live, as I'd hoped and expected. She definitely has a bit of a wanna-be-Tori persona on stage, particularly in her delivery (the heavy breathiness, the emphasis on the beginnings of sibilant words, etc). My partner and I agreed that she works best in any of three configurations: rock band; solo acoustic; studio production. What we had, though, was Charlotte with electric piano and a synthesizer. The songs that seemed to work the least well were those where she was playing entirely-too-loud synth sounds with her right hand and the piano with her left. Still she was an entrancing performer, and I'm rather glad I finally got to see her live! After the show, while picking up the most recent EPs at the merch table, I talked to Charlotte and made some comment about Vickie and the MWABT CD she'd been given. Charlotte told me she's now played "100 Years" twice in concert (anyone have a recording?!) and that when she was in philly for a show, she requested XPN play "Feed the FIre," which they did. She also apologized for not playing "100 Years" tonight and promised she'd play it next time she was in town... I'm entirely too tired to put together a set list, especially given the number of songs I'd never heard before. But "Wild Horses" was a real showstopper... jeff n.p. the sound of my bed calling to me ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V11 #303 ***************************
