I don't have to read the review to know that I felt you insulted me as well as everyone who writes reviews with your comment. I was simply sticking up for myself and my fellow reviewers. It might have been more uselful and less hurtful to say you hated that particular reviewer. That's all I'm sayin'. I also believe that technical writing and "creative" writing are very different from each other. When I'm writing a review I am describing the music and how it makes me feel, not writing a step by step process (which I also do in my "real" job). I believe they are very different. My guess, Doug, is that you would not like my reviews ;) I guess we'll never all agree on this. And that's fine. Well, I'm flattered that there's a card for me! But I probably have a longer list of things I hate in music reviews than most people, so I don't take any offense if there are things I do that end up on other people's hate-lists. I haven't heard Aerial yet, but since there were no new Kate Bush records during the whole decade I was writing weekly music reviews, I'm definitely hoping to feel moved to add another postscript for this album. glenn Begin forwarded message: > From: Ethan Straffin > Date: 31 October 2005 10:37:09pm EST > To: meredith > Cc: ecto > Subject: Re: "aerial" review. > > Uh oh: the glenn card appears. As someone who has taught two separate classes, one on creative writing and one on technical writing, I must agree. I think we also must remember that this review appeared in an English newspaper. There often is a difference between reviewers in the US and reviewers in the UK. Not always, but often there are differences. Additionally, it was in the Observer. That's the Sunday version of the Guardian, and the Guardian comes with its own specs. I have the Guardian and Observer delivered to me (reminds me -- I must pay the newsagent after work on Friday before he cuts us off :) so I clearly enjoy both papers, but the Guardian and Observer do have their own reputations to keep in mind. :) Ellen "Literature stops in 1100.
