Bask in the glow. Putting up the MySpace page is the best thing I've done for Happy since being a loudmouth back on gaffa. My heart, it overflows. http://www.myspace.com/happyrhodes The range of people discovering her is awesome too. I've had hard-core country guys, hard rockers, rockabillys, heavy metalheads, sensitive folkers and Goth types leaving comments and sending private messages. You can tell just in the last few comments. A jazzy duo from San Diego (Gaslight District, they're really excellent!); uber-Goth Peter Bjdrgv from Arcana(!!); very cool Country punkette Sherri Mullen; Mark from the great bluegrass swing band Merle Jaggger; a fantastic jazzish singer Courtney Chambers (listen to her wonderful song "Pretty"); a fantastic 30's-inspired singer, Nadine; a hard-core electronia composer, Electrifried...the list goes on. I was right in choosing to invite artits/bands from several different genres to come to her page and be "Friends." I've already had a few letters from people who are dying to work with her. Jason from VIZIONZ and The Unquiet Void heard "Winter" once, and she vaulted into his favorite artists category. He's obsessed with that song now. Old-school folker Paul Farmham had never heard of Happy, then he spent all day Saturday listening to her entire back catalogue (what's online anyway. He plans to buy the complete set). I'm overjoyed, overwhelmed, over the moon. It's not about me, it's about Happy and people discovering her music. MySpace may be a memory sink with computer-slowing adware abounding (seriously, I have to run Ad-Aware and re-boot every few hours) but it's the best thing for people, musicians mainly, discovering Happy ever. I'm still shaking my head about Peter Bjdrgv from Arcana. I mean, *swoon*! What's even more amazing is that he left a boilerplate "Thank you for the add"/signature message...and I can't stand those. I made a policy about a week ago that I would delete any Comment that didn't say anything about Happy or her music*. So, I left a Comment on the Arcana page saying thanks, but I had to delete your comment...explaining why. I also said how much I love Arcana's music, and have for several years. Did I expect someone like Peter freaking Bjdrgv from Arcana to actually come *back* and leave another comment? No, of course not. Did he? YES! *double swoon*. Peter Bjdrgv from Arcana! That band is the golden child of Dead Can Dance. The only thing that would make me swoon even more is if Brendan Perry himself, or Lisa Gerrard left a comment. Happy's getting the next best thing. For people fairly familar with that Gothy-music genre, Thanatos HIMSELF left a comment! Tara Vanflower of Lycia left a comment! This is amazing to me. Before MySpace, the only way I would have had to reach those people is if I saw them here in Chicago and personally handed them a CD. And then, maybe they wouldn't have listened. When people go to Happy's page, the music starts automatically (it does on all the music pages) so they hear her voice right away. Terami Hirsch left a comment!!! She's such a sweetie! (Btw, THANK YOU to, my brain is like a sieve, whoever posted the interview with Terami a couple of weeks ago. I loved it and I'm sorry I didn't say so at the time.) I just had to share these thoughts with somebody. *ok, I've left a couple of comments that stroke my ego, because it feels really good. I'm not going to go on a power trip or anything. (I thought she retired from the music biz? Or did she file that one in the same bin as her Nun and Lesbian phases? :) She's on the Tonight Show right now (attention West Coast-ers), and she's doing a rather boring reggae song. Anyone out there have the album? Is it all like this? In other news, I finally picked up _The Lion And The Cobra_ on CD recently, and it's every bit as brilliant now as it was my senior year in high school. That will always be the One True Sinead Album as far as I'm concerned. - -- =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== hear at the HOMe House Concert Series http://hom.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V11 #291 ***************************
