I'm sure ANORAK, UK thinks they're being funny. And one of the many news articles about people who stayed in the city throughout the whole thing mentioned a woman who did lift her shirt whenever the cops passed by, but she wasn't waiting for rescue. I'm pretty sure it was in the NY Times, but can't check on that as of course it's now into the archive section. It was a two-page article and had picture of her (clothed) and her boyfriend in their apartment and a photo or two or other holdouts. - --Neile (who has Answer Syndrome, though I'm not a Brit) On Tue, 13 Sep 2005, kerry white wrote: > Hi, ANORAK, UK. This week a very pretty song ran over the closing scene and the credits. The producers list a lot of the show's music on their site, but didn't mention this one at all. If you didn't see the show, maybe you recognize the lyrics: I'll never feel the weight of your hands Side mine like diamonds Lace so fine ballerina Cupcake and my earthquake Wakes me from my sleep And never comes hardly breathing Waiting for me I didn't really want you But I want you now Was so foolish of me To feel you tumbling down etc. Is there a lyrics database not suppressed by the RIAA that would let me search on this? She's got a great torchy jazz voice and a hip swinging band. Looks like Betty Page but with lots of tattoos. I've been impressed and recommend catching her. If you do go, tell her I said hi :) www.bernadetteseacrest.com has some sound samples September: Tuesday 27th: Liquid Kitty - Santa Monica, CA Wednesday 28th: Argus Lounge - San Francisco, CA Thursday 29th: Zebulon's - Petaluma, CA Friday 30th: Luckey's Cigar Bar - Eugene, OR October Saturday 1st: The Blue Monk - Portland, OR Sunday 2nd: Jules Maes - Seattle, WA Monday 3rd JAZZBONES - Tacoma, WA On a different front - I got to bring Niyaz to Albuquerque last week! They were stunning. Don't miss them if you get the chance. Azam Ali's voice is so beautiful, and the whole band sounds great. It was part of my first festival - !Globalquerque!. The other ecto related artists I can recommend very highly were: Lura - a new voice out of Cape Verde. She's on her first US tour and hitting all the big world music festivals. Very sexy, with a slinky cool voice and those strange African/Portaguese rhythms. Marta Gomez y Los Changos From Colombia, with a band from Argentina. I don't usually go for those Latin American jazz singers, but Marta totally works for me. Her CD is beautiful, as was her performance. Info and links at www.abqmusic.com/globalquerque.html And while I'm being excited.... We have a house concert with Jorane in November! Ok, that's it for the New Mexico concert report. neal np: Black Eagle nr: House of Leaves & Human Cartography ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V11 #249 ***************************
