I pass. Yeah her recent ENGLISH language album was a big disappointment. It figures that iTunes would only have music that has been released here in the US. itunes don't even have any Akiko Yano or Dreams Come True which is surprising, as both have released US albums. They do have Takako Minekawa, Buffalo Daughter, Towa Tei, Pizzacato Five, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Cornelius. Granted they have all released US domestic albums, but they are represented. That said, iTunes did have a little BONNIE PINK which I give it snaps - as I don't think ANY of her stuff has been released here in the US. Those who aren't familiar with J-POP should give her a listen as she definitely falls into ECTO sphere of sound. I guess the closest I can come to describing her is an asian LISA LOEB. I guess she's not typical J-POP stuff, but I like her (actually more than I like LISA LOEB). Her singing has a decidely Japanese cadence which I really like. I don't have a ton of her stuff, and her earlier stuff (which is what I have) is more stripped down in sound than her later stuff. There are sound clips on iTunes. For those who are in the know about producers, early in her career she worked with TORE JOHANSSON (producers of THE CARDIGANS, SAINT ETIENNE, and NERINA PALLOT) and her 2000 album LET GO was co-produced by MITCHELL FROOM (who has produced Suzanne Vega, Lisa Germano, and Stina Nordenstam) and herself. That should give you an idea of what her music is like. Boy ecto if I ever heard it. If you haven't yet give it a listen. Musically eclectic. All over the map. But it caught me from the moment I first heard the piano riff on the first track. - --Neile ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Aug 2005 22:35:42 -0400 From: Dave Subject: Re: had to share - ecto reference in my own code I remember one guy I worked with about 20 years ago that used to put little references like that in his code, I think there were probably some Talking Heads and maybe some B52s references, the ones I really remember though were a bunch of routines named after Zippy the Pinhead. It was a lot of fun when he left the company and I had to take over his code.. nothing like trying to guess what routines ZIPPY1, ZIPPY2, ZIPPY3, etc. where supposed to do. :/ ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V11 #235 ***************************
