Well I've found the weirdest band yet..Psydoll from Japan are weird and loveable..their sound is industrial sure but also with folk touches..That makes no sense but oddly that's how they are.. Their debut "I Psydoll" is a trip and a half. psydoll.com for infos. Rory Stitt's new record is also great and I hope he gets famous this time..beat Rufus Wainrirght at his own game. Finally I expect great things from much hyped about Midaircondo from Sweden..they seem cool and their debut is due soon. Otherwise I'm still not sure why they are on the island in "Lost" or if it's all going to go x-flies on us and become dull by season..um three. That doesn't stop me from enjoying both bands, though...I'm waiting for my copy of _I, Psydoll_ to arrive in the mail (ordered via a GEMM merchant). > Their debut [_I, Psydoll_] is a trip and a half. I just checked their site , and it's really a compilation of tracks from two other discs (_The Daughter of Dr. Neumann_ and _A War in the Box_); I'm sorry I missed everything else on their discography page. Planet Ghost published this disc in the U.K. , but only the Flash-ready should bother to access their site. I'd sooner go to Psydoll's homepage (English and Japanese) and use GEMM to track down a copy of the CD. Expect to pay at least $18 - 20, depending on the merchant. A new short CD, _Stories_, was just readied for the Comic Market in Tokyo a couple of weeks ago, but I have no idea if they'll make arrangements for their new fans elsewhere. Back on August 12th, their vocalist Nekoi was blogging on the band's MySpace page that things were a bit "hellish" in preparing for the "Komike," so.... Those looking to sample Psydoll should hop over to DarkCell... http://www.darkcelldigitalmusic.net/artists.asp?artistID=31 where "His Melody," "Machinery Lemmings," and my current fave, "Rose, Rose, Rose" (all in Japanese) are easy to grab. (And frequently replayed on my iPod Mini while I wait for their compilation...) Following is a snippet from APPLE, DIGITAL MUSIC'S ANGEL, EARNS RECORD INDUSTRY'S SCORN Jeff Leeds - The New York Times full article: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/08/27/technology/27apple.html Two and a half years after the music business lined up behind the chief executive of Apple, Steven Jobs, and hailed him and his iTunes music service for breathing life into music sales, the industry's allegiance to Jobs has eroded sharply. Jobs is now girding for a showdown with at least two of the four major record companies over the price of songs on the iTunes service. If he loses, the one-price model that iTunes has adopted - 99 cents to download any song - could be replaced with a more complex structure that prices songs by popularity. A hot new single, for example, could sell for $1.49, while a golden oldie could go for substantially less than 99 cents. Music executives who support Jobs say the higher prices could backfire, sending iTunes' customers in search of songs on free, unauthorized file-swapping networks. Signs of conflict over pricing issues are increasingly apparent. This month, Apple started its iTunes service in Japan without songs from the two major companies - Sony BMG Music Entertainment and Warner Music Group - leaving artists like Avril Lavigne, Beyonci and Rob Thomas out of the catalog because the companies refused to license their music to iTunes, executives involved in the talks said. .................... Sony BMG in particular has taken steps that may apply pressure to Jobs to make Apple's software compatible with that of other companies. The company has issued dozens of new titles - including high-profile CD's from the Dave Matthews Band and the Foo Fighters - with software to limit the number of copies that can be made from the disc. The software is compatible with Microsoft's music software, but not Apple's, and as a result music from those Sony BMG albums cannot be transferred to iPods that are hooked up to Windows-based PC's. EMI has been test-marketing similar software with a handful of titles. - ---------- Karen ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V11 #233 ***************************
