SIG 3 is in the can, for better or worse. This one might get completely re-done at some point. This show went through several different incarnations, so I figured I'd better get at least one version out before I went catatonic. This version is slow, maybe a bit melancholy (or, as my friend put it, "Got No Doze?") so I made the beginning and ending a bit more, er, upbeat, to shut him up (then he asked "Got Prozac?" before I virtually smacked him). http://suspended-in-gaffa.com/index.html Here's the line-up: Hollie Smith - Amazing Grace July - Grace Marianne Faithful - Falling From Grace Sophie Zelmani - Going Home Azure Ray - Seven Days Ephermera - Everytime The Telling - Blue Solitaire Pamela Golden - Happens All The Time Happy Rhodes - Winter Sheila Nichols - Moth and The Streetlight Heidi Berry - The Moon and the Sun Susan McKeown - A Mhaire Bhruinneall Heather Duby - For Jeffrey Merrie Amsterburg - Belonging Has anyone got any better ideas for a better tagline than "A Celebration of the Female Voice"? I did not come up with that. It was hung on me by others when the show was runnning, so I just went with it. It stinks though. We're not having a frickin' party here, we're listening to some good music (and oh by the way, they happen to be all female voices). Btw, I got read the riot act about the profanity, so I made nicey (even though the idiot web designers who make Inaccessible sites don't deserve it. The morons should be hung, god I hate them) and so I toned down my rants. Now the site is PG. For those who like their ecto flavored with folk pop, this is heaven. The album is Fires, and Nerina does the songwriter-piano player thing to perfection, with hints of Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Fiona Apple, Molly Zenobia, and a very early Kick Inside-era Kate Bush, but she definitely has her own sound. Go to http://www.nerinapallot.com and listen to the tracks on the audio page - especially Idaho, or Halfway Home, or Everybody's Gone to War. I had to get this as an import on Amazon. There is an earlier album, Dear Frustrated Superstar, which unfortunately I have yet to find where I can use US dollars to pay for it...sigh Todd Pierce Asheville NC tpierceint@yahoo.com Tired of spam? I spent a lot of time going to work, coming home and going to sleep, and trying to catch up on marking on the weekend. However, this spring/summer, my medical conditions have been sorted thanks to surgery and medication. The thyroid is a serious part of our bodies, after all! Anyway... The mention of Nerina Pallott has made me return to posting. I saw her open for Suzanne Vega back in late June in the wilds of Basingstoke, and I was intrigued -- so much so that I went into London in late July and saw her play at the Borderline with her own band. I have to admit that I rather preferred her solo. By herself -- on guitar and piano, but particularly on the piano, of course, there are many suitable Tori comparisons, especially on the song "Idaho". With a band, she's not quite as unique, but I still liked her. Now that I'm feeling better, I'm trying to get to more music. London gigs still will be far and few between (I'm still easily fatigued), but I'm off to London next week for Richard Thompson. I bought tickets before I knew that Dar Williams was his opening act. That latter fact will just make the evening even better. And I'm planning on the McGarrigles (with Thea Gilmore opening) in October in London. Probably Kate Rusby will be seen this autumn, but she'll play closer to home. Back from limbo, Ellen "Literature stops in 1100. I tried stealing Happy's line "My ears are lucky to hear these glorious songs" but that was a bit long. > "The female voices in my head tell me to listen to > Vickie's 'Suspended in Gaffa' show!" I like it! :) I'm sorry the files are so big. There's not a lot I can do about it short of cutting the "show" in half or saving at an obscenely low bitrate. The music is too important. I know it's bad for people with slow connections (says she, the Inaccessible web site ranter) but I don't know what to do about it. I want it to sound good. I took off the strip of pictures. It was silly anyway, since I don't play many of those people. I'm re-thinking it. I'll think about it. > > Happy Birthday, btw! Thanks! Well there is no miracles - it's a fact of life that you can either have small size or sound quality, but not both. But I wouldn't worry about this too much because 90mb or so is really not that much nowadays. And really, even on 56k modem it is quite manageable... I still remember these dark days when we only had modems and I know I used to manage downlaods much bigger than this! People stuck on 56k should use download managers that can resume interrupted download, that's all. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Aug 2005 19:11:08 -0700 From: Daniel Subject: Re: Suspended In Gaffa 3 Vickie wrote: > I'm sorry the files are so big. I reckon that anyone with a really slow connection could ask me for a (no charge) CD, at least until my blank-CD-and-postage budget runs out. I doubt there will be many takers, as the files really aren't all that big ... ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V11 #221 ***************************
