So, quoting http://www.jessmcavoy.com/gigs.htm *** JESS TOURS AMERICA DATE Saturday August 6, 7.30 pm VENUE Room 5 Lounge- 143 North La Brea LA, CA WITH tba *** JESS TOURS AMERICA DATE Wednesday August 10 VENUE Rockwood Music Hall,196 Allen Street New York City. 8pm WITH tba *** JESS TOURS AMERICA DATE Thursday August 11, 7pm VENUE Arlenes Grocery, 95 Stanton Street, NYC WITH tba *** JESS TOURS AMERICA DATE Wednesday August 17, 8pm VENUE the Bitter End, 147 Bleecker Street NYC WITH tba I've seen her three times here in Melbourne, and I can't help but to agree with what she says herself: she's excellent. :) That said, I liked her best the first time I saw her, when she had a receptive audience and a decent stage (she opened for Brooke Fraser, and was way better; plus her stage banter blew away everything), and least the second time, when she was playing in a noisy smoky pub and only a small percentage of the people there cared about her music. So, I don't know any of these venues, but try to see her in the best one available, chances are her music will more than reflect that quality. I suck at describing what the music is like (I compared her to Catie Curtis with less thwang just after hearing her for the first time, but I've gotten to know her music too much to still do that - she's obviously very different), so instead I'll just point you to good quality downloads at her website, which I think give a pretty good impression: http://www.jessmcavoy.com/music.htm Cheers, Sander P.S. Also, whoever it was on here who posted about Jesca Hoop somewhere last year, thank you! I downloaded back then and shuffled the songs into my playlist, and just yesterday her "Seeds of Wonder" suddenly sparked a connection. Wow. Brilliant! I can't understand how I could've missed hearing this for so long! ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V11 #199 ***************************
