I thought then it was one of the most pleasant surprises of the festival, and I like their EP a lot. the Faroe Islands (47k inhabitants) have their own parliament (the Lxgting) but are governed by Denmark, and Clickhaze made it quite clear they were in favour of Faroese independence, which I speculate resulted in unfairly bad reviews in the Danish press. at the time, I thought it was the male vocalist that had a fixation on the Danish psalm writer Thomas Kingo (1634-1703), but from her other albums, it looks like it was hers. not that it's a bad thing, it's definitely interesting to hear these old psalms performed in such an untraditional manner. > My favorite song is the last one: Trollabundin (Spellbound?) (yes, it means "spellbound".) > It's in Faroese and very striking. I wonder where I can find that album. I just signed up for eMusic to download her debut album. like the Clickhaze EP, it contains some tracks of traditional Faeroese men's singing. it now seems quite apparant that she was the dominant part of Clickhaze :-) - -- Kjetil T. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 7 Jul 2005 10:56:50 -0700 (PDT) From: Michael Mendelson Subject: Jorn Hmmmmm, yes.... Jorn Barger indeed... Did I know that he started the blogging thing? I used to see him whenever I went to Chris and Vickie's for gaffa-fests. I had no idea he was 13 years older than me! Wow! He definitely seemed a lot younger than that. Yes, I do remember lots of craziness with the whole Jorn thing and all of Chris and Vickie's eccentric friends (that's not a judgment, just an objective description ;-). Hey, we're all eccentric here anyways, right? But yes, the one thing I always admired so much about that whole little group was its counter-culture-disregard for almost anything society deemed deemable. What is striking is that while Jorn was exceptionally frictional in his approach, he always seemed very action-oriented. I am quite sure he created and "sold" the first Kate Bush or lovehounds hat or shirt or something like that that I ever owned. Does anyone else recall what that was? He would not have been someone I would have expected to end up on the street... then again, he always did seem very idealistic and "intellectual" to the point of being self-defeating and even self-destructive. When obviously bright people like that (and I have known quite a few) just cannot get past their own sphere to pull their lives together, it always leaves me feeling very sad at the "near-miss" of such great potential to turn into something truly great. But you know the saying -- there's a fine line between genius and madness... it is a fine balance between creativity and over-indulgence. Or something like that. - -mjm ____________________________________________________ Sell on Yahoo! Auctions no fees.
