FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE **MPress Records To Release "New Arrivals" Indie Compilation Series** New York, NY - MPress Records, a nationally distributed label founded a decade ago by 2005 Independent Music Award Winner Rachael Sage, will be producing the first in a series of rising artist compilations beginning this Fall. Sage, who has also received Grand Prize in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest and shared stages with Ani DiFranco, Melissa Etheridge and Sarah McLachlan, has been inspired to present such a compilation "ever since I performed at Lilith Fair and experienced first hand how powerful it could be...for artists at all different levels in their careers to perform together for an equally diverse group of music-lovers." MPress Records, which has released six albums of Sage's keyboard-driven art/pop, has produced numerous showcases and festivals highlighting DIY musicians (i.e. "MPressFests") throughout the country; however, this will be the label's first recording project aimed at increasing exposure for exceptional self-released material. The release of "New Arrivals: Volume 1" will coincide with this year's CMJ Music Marathon (Sept 14-17), at which advanced copies of the CD will be inserted in all attendee drop-bags as well as distributed at various CMJ-sponsored events. Wider plans to service the disc to press and college/AAA formats are in the works. A to Z Music Services will be partnering with MPress as the official CD duplication sponsor for "New Arrivals". Online submissions for the compilation will be accepted beginning July 6th exclusively through SONICBIDS.COM, a web community which enables independent musicians to direct their work to various contests, festivals and venue booking personnel via their Sonicbids Electronic Presskit. In January 2005, Sonicbids presented its First Annual Independent Artist Showcase at MIDEM Conference in Cannes, France, where Rachael Sage was one of only eight independent artists selected to perform. AAA, Singer-Songwriter, Americana, Rock and Pop submissions highly encouraged, but all styles of music are welcome and will be considered. Subject: BOA's new cd - Get There Hello! Just unlurking again for a moment with a request. Please check out BOA's new cd at www.cdbaby.com/cd/boa. They self-published their newest cd Get There, so it's a little pricey. I just got a notice that it is in stock again. I haven't heard anyone talk about this group, so I apologize if this is old news. I first heard of them from the anime Serial Experiments: Lain with the song "Duvet" which is one of their softer (and very pretty) guitar songs on their first CD - The Race of a Thousand Camels (or the American release which was Twilight - which includes an acoustic version of "Duvet" and two additional songs not included on TROATC) . I'm horrible at describing sounds, but they are a rock band with a female singer - Jasmine Rodgers - who has a very nice voice. I can't think of anyone to compare them to, so if you have a few spare moments, please check the samples out. If you like them, check out their website www.boaweb.co.uk as well. Thanks! I think I might have mentioned them long ago, and I wondered whatever happened to them. I really liked their Twilight album -- pretty much straightforward rock but Jasmine has a fabulous voice and the songs have some great hooks. It seems she takes after her father in that department - she and her brother Steve in the band are Paul Rodgers' kids (the 'voice of of Bad Company and Free). Considering their lineage, I was surprised the first Boa album didn't get a little more mainstream attention. Sounds like their previous label was pretty useless, maybe they'll do better on their own. Of course it's still quite early so there could be some changes (as you can see two are marked as unconfirmed) - and hopefully more dates added. I want to know the UK ones! Veda Hille 17. I had to work overtime tracking down an affordable copy of Twilight and am extremely excited about a new CD. After reading your e-mail, I hustled by butt to cdbaby.com and picked it up. Thanks for the info! Chad PS Boa fun note: Steve and Jasmine Rodgers are the children of Bad Company lead singer Paul Rodgers - --- "Scallion, K.D." wrote: > Hello! Sounds like their previous > label was pretty useless, maybe they'll do better on their own. Considering that it was the entertainment arm of Pioneer, I guess I shouldn't have been too surprised. Pioneer was far better known for their anime lineup (they _did_ co-finance _Serial Experiments Lain_ with Triangle Group and TV Tokyo) than for their "mainstream" music video lineup - or at least that became abundantly clear after they made the transition from LaserDisc to DVD. Pioneer Entertainment (worldwide, not just in the States) is now called Geneon, and is owned by the Japanese firm Denetsu (a company that also helps bankroll Studio Ghibli movies), but that won't help them break thru a constricted music CD marketplace. Given that they agreed to stage a concert by I'VE member Kotoko at a recent anime convention, I wish them luck in selling her discs in the domestic marketplace, given their bad luck in penetrating the big box stores. Is that what they deserve for catering to _otaku_? I wonder. In the meantime, going indie will be best for Boa. It certainly works for Mari Iijima.
