As Obi-Wan would say: "Now that's a name I haven't heard in a long time. A long time." Not that I can remember specifically what all the fuss was about anymore. (I mainly recall people using the name "Jorn" as if it were a new swear word.) Although I seem to have a long ago memory of someone starting a big analog vs. digital flamewar on Gaffa, think that might have been him. >Here's an interesting (short) article about him from Wired >magazine: >http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/13.07/posts.html?pg=6 >Quite sad. :( Gawd, I hope I don't end up like that, that I find a job soon.... Here's an interesting (short) article about him from Wired > magazine: Wow. Used to be, the mere mention of him would bring him out of the woodwork with sixguns ablaze, regardless of the context in which one had dared type his name. That is sad indeed. I do hope he manages to get back on his feet. - -- =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== hear at the HOMe House Concert Series http://hom.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 3 Jul 2005 14:02:30 -0700 (PDT) From: "Xenu's Sister" Subject: Re: Remember Jorn Barger? Thank you for that link Sue. Jorn was once a very good friend of ours. We knew him from gaffa when we still lived in Kansas City, then when Chris and I moved up here to Chicago he helped us move and lent us money until we got on our feet. He knew our other friend Charley through the James Joyce fandom. He was scary smart, just like (but even more than) Chris and Charley. None of them ever once indicated that my dim intellect bothered them, and I loved them all for it. The 4 of us became very tight and had some great times. I could tell dozens of stories, all positive. > (not sure if he was ever on ecto) Oh my yes, Jorn adored Happy and ecto. He wanted gaffa to have the warm, no-flame atmosphere of ecto and proposed a mailing list for Kate that didn't work out at all. Things started to unravel and it all went bad with our friendships. Jorn and Charley clashed and their friendship crashed, then Jorn and Chris clashed and crashed, then Jorn and I clashed and crashed. The term "Solipsism" was often bandied about when Chris and Charley referred to Jorn. It was all so sad and I regret that it all soured. Now it's even sadder. I only wish him well.
