I have not only been told about groups, I have had tapes sent to me and I have had record store owners let me borrow to tape and some to keep odd lps from their slush piles. I sent our own HTR a copy of the soundtrack to Blade Runner and have recently asked if there was anyway I could make it better. Also: I have tapes that I think I remember who sent to me and others that are complete mysteries. I have a tape with the Tribe EP on it and the first Innocence Mission. I have no idea who started me on these with this. There was an Ecto who ran an ecto store - kinda- he had access to bulk loads of no name hi-quality hi-bias tapes and a number of tapes that we all wanted. We got what we wanted for cost. And, I have no idea who that was. Through him I have Innocence Mission Live at the Tin Angel and a tape with Tribe's Here At The Home, which seems to be a demo for Abort, leaving me with 3 versions of the song 'abort'. Vickie, Uncle Ecto, woj(phrase), Meth.. who was this man? bye, KrW I'm Peter Pan! I'm perpetually young!! OW!! What's wrong with my back? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Jun 2005 18:31:03 -0400 From: meredith Subject: Re: stuff Hi, kerry inquired: > There was an Ecto who ran an ecto store - kinda- he had access to > bulk loads of no name hi-quality hi-bias tapes and a number of tapes > that we all wanted. Vickie, Uncle > Ecto, woj(phrase), Meth.. who was this man? bye, That was the wonderful Doug Burks, who also administered the Happy Birthday Project and Happy Gift Project (semi-annual projects whereby ectophiles put together compilations of cool stuff we thought Happy might like, and sent them to her as b-day and Xmas gifts). He had a whole list of other tape-tree things that he provided for listmembers. It was indeed a valuable service, and for that and many other reasons we miss him around these parts. Is anyone in touch with Doug these days? I wonder how he's doing... - -- =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== hear at the HOMe House Concert Series http://hom.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Jun 2005 22:16:59 -0400 From: Robert Lovejoy Subject: HBP, HGP (was "stuff") Good Lord! What a memory. The Happy Gift Project and Happy Birthday Project were one of ecto's most sublime accomplishments. Everybody sent in a ten minute tape, and they were all strung together and sent back out to Happy as well as the individual contributors. I remember doing things like sending Happy songs from one of my old bands, adding a bass line to "Ode" (God forgive me - Happy was gracious), and sending some Russian folk music where the singer almost had a vocal range close to Happy's (I even ran my voice through a pitch shifter for that one!). That was an amazing time. Ecto was ASCII on MS-DOS, connected with a 2400 baud modem to a fledgling Internet. There was an intense spirit of fuzzy blue family. Doug, wherever you are, man, you did some amazing work. OK, as long as you're all here, is anybody _ever_ going to tell me the significance of "smoe"? Does anyone still have a copy of my apparently infamous "Some Members Of Ecto" post that I was stunned to see on a T shirt at a Happy concert in Philadelphia? Happily, ecto remains a very flame free environment (don't try to explain the meaning of life, though!), and though I do not post as often as I used to, I read what all of you have to say every day and have been turned on to some wonderful music. And I thank you all for the great amount of musical knowledge here. You're still a generous group. Thanks Kerry for bringing this up. I hope I sent you all the music I was supposed to send you; I was notoriously slow in getting stuff out. Your Hypnorock CD is close at hand, along with many other discs and tapes of amazing music garnered from the denizens of this list. Uncle Ecto NP - Incontinence Mission (Just kidding, I have Kevin's Near Life Experience playing in the car and Patricia Vonne is still hogging the Home Theater.at the moment). ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Jun 2005 19:02:06 -0700 From: "Scallion, K.D." Subject: Re: Music Suggestions Please Thank you very much. I've been looking around for samples. Trobar De Morte has exceeded their bandwidth for the month, so I'll have to wait on them. Thank you and everybody for their suggestions. I'm going to put Angelzoom on my list of items to definitely get. I'm looking for more samples of Narsilion at the moment and listening to Jack or Jive right this second (suggested by someone - I can't find the e-mail right now :(, so I apologize.) Thanks.
