ITMS could do with LESS compression in the AAC files they sell. High-count MP3 (I use 256 for most cases with 320 being the maximum) produces no artifacts that my aging ears can hear. Those with good ears might want to use 320. When all players support AAC then there will be less reason to use MP3 any more but you will still want to do whatever it takes to remove DRM, just on principle. Does anyone here know who the artist might be, or for that matter know of an extant dreamy female vocal recording of that song? Thanks as ever, Bob Lovejoy PS - no one responded to my last post about Patricia Vonne. I found out she's the kid sister of noted film director Robert Rodriguez. And I still would like to hear what others think of "Guitars and Castanets". ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Jun 2005 20:40:32 -0700 From: Nadyne Mielke Subject: Re: burning iTunes At 09:17 AM 6/22/2005, Michael Pearce wrote: Oops, I got myself backwards. At 320, why would you bother with MP3 at all? The resultant files are just about the same size as a WAV/AIFF in all its uncompressed glory, give or take a couple of KB. And 320 still does sampling, whereas WAV/AIFF is the real deal. Okay, okay, I'm sure that no-one can tell the difference between a 320 MP3 and the original WAV/AIFF, but I still don't see the point of using MP3 if the final file is the same size as the WAV/AIFF is. /nm ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Jun 2005 21:14:19 -0700 (PDT) From: "Xenu's Sister" Subject: Re: Roy Am I the only one who didn't understand these lyrics until now? At the point in Roy just after the Hey hey hey's, when voices kick in sounding like J.F. Sebastian's animatronic dolls, they're (it's?) singing: I let go of precious photos They are not the real past Gotta make my own I'm afraid to close my eyes I'm afraid to lose my home Being non-articulate and all, let me just say...kick ass! Brilliant! They don't make much sense if you haven't seen Blade Runner, but going along with the movie, they're so absolutely perfecto, it's unbelieveable. If you listen on headphones, the doll-like voice sings in the right channel, but Happy's regular voice sings it in the left channel. I wasn't sure of that last line "lose my home" so I asked Happy about it. She confimed that and the word "past." I love music that keeps on giving, revealing things you never heard/understood, years after the fact. (toriamisrising and I have established too, thanks to Happy's confirmation, that what she sings right before that, the operatic singing, is, in techical terms :), "Happyese" (my word, based on Gabrielese), nonsense words made to sound like lyrics in a foreign language.)
