Ask her if she's had a chance to listen to Happy. I gave her a Many Worlds and a Keep in Chicago on Saturday night. She said she'd heard of Happy from a Kate Bush fan (anyone here?) but hadn't heard her music yet. I had a good time and really liked her. I see the Tori comparisons, but she's good as herself too. I didn't know it, but Char's from Illinios, so the place was packed with friends and family and school chums. She was very nervous ("I'm so nervous I could puke") and was adorable, very goofy and silly. I expected someone very serious, I don't know why. She was wonderful! Best of all was meeting her after the show. She's just as sweet as can be, and gave me a big hug. Wish I lived in Cleveland. Jorane was her surprise opening band last night!! I gave Feist a Many Worlds too, so if anyone sees her, ask. Feist has very fond memories of your house concert meth and woj. She said that during the Junos, she and Sarah Harmer and Sarah Slean found themselves together backstage and talked about the concert. That show wasn't ideal, because she was the middle player, between ...Scottish Gospel something, and British Sea Power (I think, we didn't stay for them), and though the venue was interesting, we couldn't get anywhere near the stage. I take it British Sea Power are very popular. Still, it sounded good, she was great, and it was nice meeting her after the show. I keep forgetting to say anything about Anne Heaton, but we did go and enjoyed the music, though we got there a bit late and ended up sitting on the floor, which was horrible. Anne was a bit distant when I met her after the show, and I can't help but wonder if she heard me when I whispered in Chris's ear during a lull "This is torture!" but I meant sitting on the floor and my feet and legs falling asleep, not her! Chris says I can't whisper for shit, and we were very close to the stage. I really hope she didn't hear and think I meant her. That would be bad. Anyway, I had a good time otherwise. If Jorane was in Cleveland, and will be in Boston, I wonder if she'll be at Hartford, CT too. That's tomorrow night. If someone goes, let me know. Ha, I gave Jorane a Many Worlds too, maybe they'll compare notes. Or not. I doubt they even listened. Please try and talk to Charlotte after the show. I can't stand it, wanting to know if she likes Happy. I really want her to. Happy could use a champion from an up and comer. :) If she doesn't (or hasn't listened, or looks like she's just being polite) I'll be disappointed, but I can handle it. I just want to know if one, just freaking ONE of the thousands of CDs I've given away has made it from my hands to the ears of the person I gave it to. Never, ever, not once, have I heard that it's happened. Not counting you and woj, of course :) God I'm pathetic. Why do all you people like Happy yet I can't get anyone else to? Some weird hole in the universe opened up back in 1990-91 and people actually listened. That hole closed up and I can't get it open again. *wanders off in confusion* - -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ Music, all I hear is music, guaranteed to please... - -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ - -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 06 Jun 2005 17:45:01 -0400 From: meredith Subject: Re: Charlotte Martin tour dates Hi, Vickie responded: > We just crossed paths. Really? I thought Sarah McLachlan later told someone she'd listened to the copy of _Warpaint_ you gave her ... maybe I'm hallucinating that? > God I'm pathetic. Why do all you people like Happy yet > I can't get anyone else to? Some weird hole in the universe > opened up back in 1990-91 and people actually listened. That > hole closed up and I can't get it open again. I won't claim to have the answer (other than the catch-all "people suck"), but a possible explanation from my experience: some musicians love to listen to music by people other than themselves, some don't. Some who like to listen to other music might not be into doing so when they're on the road (or might just not have the time or even the apparatus, in this iPod age we find ourselves in now). They may collect a bunch of CDs while on tour, both from fans and from the people they share bills with ... and then when they get home they don't get around to listening to all of it for a while, if at all. It's possible that some of the Happy CDs you've handed out haven't gotten a proper listen, but that's not your fault, or Happy's fault, or even the fault of the musician to whom you gave the CD. It's just a matter of circumstance. =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== hear at the HOMe House Concert Series http://hom.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V11 #157 ***************************
