Beth is also one of the most wrly funny, and least precious performers you'll ever encounter - and, she's got an infamous liking for jokes and puns (involving horses, penguins, lobsters+); she's great ( : ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 2 Jun 2005 23:26:20 -0700 From: "Allison Crowe Music Mgmt" Subject: Re: Beth Orton Some folks have spotted a Sandy Denny tone to Beth Orton's vocals. I've seen her perform with band, doing more beat-laden material, and, also pared down to a solo or duo, folky, act. She can be especially moving in the latter format. A performance she gave at Antone's in Austin (SXSW in '99 I believe) was just Beth and a guitar, joined on some songs by Ted Barnes also on guitar. It was transcendent. Unfortunately she suffers from Chron's Disease - which puts a serious limit on her recording and touring activities. Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready also suffers from Chron's, and he has done a lot to help raise awareness and funds about it. A reminder that health is #1. cheers, Adrian ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Jun 2005 21:45:12 -0600 From: neal copperman Subject: Pride music? Next weekend I will be hosting the Children's Hour on my local community radio station. I recently realized that it is Pride weekend, and the Pride parade literally starts from the parking lot of the radio station, a half hour after the show. I'm looking for songs I can play on a kids show that tie in thematically. They can be as broad as diversity and tolerance, to dealing with racism and homophobia. Or just tying in symbolically, like with rainbows and stuff. The only thing I outright refuse to play is YMCA! Any suggestions are welcome, neal np: Mystery Girl - Lisa McCormick ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 04 Jun 2005 01:08:54 -0400 From: meredith Subject: Re: Pride music? The Nields did "Daddy's Little Girl" (on _Mousse_), which is a teenage coming-out story. Appropriate for kids too, I think. Do you have anything by Billy Jonas? I'm sure he has some stuff that would be appropriate. Same goes for Peter Himmelman. I'm sure there's lots more, but my allergy-addled brain can't come up with anything else at the moment... =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== hear at the HOMe House Concert Series http://hom.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Jun 2005 23:40:25 -0600 From: neal copperman Subject: Re: Pride music? Hey Meredith, Thanks for the suggestions... >The first title to pop into my head was "The Rainbow Connection". :) >I think that fits. yeah, that one occurred to me too. I think I have a version of it somewhere. If not, I think the station must have that one. >The Nields did "Daddy's Little Girl" (on _Mousse_), which is a >teenage coming-out story. Appropriate for kids too, I think. I do have that. I'll have to give it a listen. I usually play "Superhero Soup" when I play the Nields :) >Do you have anything by Billy Jonas? Actually - "One" is a good song about tolerance. No Peter Himmelman, but KUNM has a few and I'll track through them as well. Thanks again. Good to get me started. And it is working too. Got me looking at CD's, where I found: Christians & the Pagans - Dar Williams Me, Too - SONiA Laura Love (from Octoroon - either If I Knew or her cover of Nirvana's Come As You Are) I'll be really curious to see how a show like this is received. neal ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V11 #154 ***************************
