SoundBridge is a small gizmo that connects to your stereo or powered speakers and streams your music collection and internet radio to that stereo. SoundBridge works over your wifi network. The small, elegantly designed unit has a clear, full display and a remote that makes it easy to move from tune to tune or station to station. It works with iTunes, Windows Media Player and WinAmp, and can tap into your playlists. With SoundBridge you can stream your personal music collection --or Internet radio-- to any room in your house. It's like having XM Radio without the subscription fee. Better than XM, in fact, since you're not limited to what XM chooses, and can draw on your own music library. SoundBridge buffers the music and radio so there's no skipping even if your wifi signal's weak. Setup, even on a Windows network, is a snap. (Phew!) Total time from box to working: 10 minutes. SoundBridge can store 15 radio station presets, so you can use it even if your computer is off. This morning, as I was making breakfast I was listening to an NPR station in Kodiak, Alaska. And then with one press of a button on the remote I flipped to an oldies station in Oxford, England. When my daughter wanted to hear the Pretenders it was no trouble to call up all my Pretender songs from the basement computer. The only big problem with SoundBridge is that you need to tell your family members that they're hearing a weather forecast from another part of the world...or else! This is the *best* music device I have gotten in eons. SoundBridge costs $150 (with the rebate). There's more at www.rokulabs.com. - --Bill n.p. But the really nice thing about the SoundBridge is that you don't have to be at your computer to select songs, playlists or radio stations: You can do that from any room in your house or apartment. - --Bill n.p. Thanks to Mr. Early Adopter JeffW :), woj and I have enjoyed an almost identical device for the past couple years. It's called Audiotron, manufactured by Turtle Beach. It can only read MP3 files and MP3 streams, but other than that it's pretty much exactly like the Soundbridge. Alas, it appears to be a discontinued product; but it's good to know the Soundbridge is out there, in the event our Audiotron ever gives up the ghost. =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== hear at the HOMe House Concert Series http://hom.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 May 2005 11:16:17 -0700 From: Nadyne Mielke Subject: Indigo Girls "Rarities" set I have to admit that I've been out-of-touch with the the Indigo Girls in the past few years. So maybe y'all already know this, but just in case not ... They're about to release a set called "Rarities" on 14 June 2005. It includes demos and some unreleased material, soundtrack and tribute album contributions, and so on. You can pre-order it from Sony now, and there's a 10% off coupon for all Indigo-related purchases using the code INDIGOGIRLS. Enjoy. :) /nm ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V11 #146 ***************************
