When I sold the domain, the new owners agreed to retain my address there, forwarding automatically to my more recent address. There might be similar possibilities in this case. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 May 2005 23:48:13 -0700 (PDT) From: "Xenu's Sister" Subject: Feist in Chicago (Re: 100% non-Ecto, but I had to share (re Cream) Is very odd, Feist just won a couple of Junos, but in Chicago she's playing the most bizarre place, the "Logan Square Auditorium" which I've never even heard of in my 15 years in Chicago. She'll be there the 19th. I've only heard one song, the absolutely delightful "Mushaboom" and I want to see her just based on that. At our house she was quite loopy (she signed our copy of _Monarch_ "Thanks for letting me be a jackass in your living room" ;), but still wonderful. In the five years since she has evolved into an accomplished artist who deserves everything she's getting. woj, JeffW and I saw her at Joe's Pub a few weeks back, and it was an extraordinary show. If NYC is any indication, though, you'll want to get tickets in advance. (It seemed like the entire Swiss population of Manhattan had come out for the show, and even though they added a second show that one sold out too! I can't believe how huge she is in Europe.) =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== hear at the HOMe House Concert Series http://hom.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 May 2005 00:34:41 -0700 From: Tom Masapollo Subject: Sad news from France Hello, This is somewhat off-topic but after reading Gary Davis' newsletter, I found out about the passing of percussionist extraordinaire Pierre Moerlen and wanted to pass this info on to others. From Gary: "Many of you will recognize him as an integral member of Gong, the leader of Pierre Moerlen's Gong, and a frequent collaborator with Mike Oldfield and many other musicians. I remember seeing Pierre Moerlen's Gong perform in the early 80's (I think) in a small club below the Cleveland Agora. Performing with Pierre were guitarist Bon Lozaga and bassist Hansford Rowe (now the core of Gongzilla) and percussionist Francois Causse. The performance was simply stunning, one of the best concerts I'd ever seen! A couple years ago Pierre, Bon and Hansford reunited for a short European tour. Such a shame they didn't manage to bring that here." (Have met Bon & Hansford several times since they have been in several of Happy Rhodes touring bands) For more information on Pierre's passing, go to . I know that many of us will miss him terribly. tom m. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 12 May 2005 22:43:53 -0700 From: "Bill Mazur" Subject: RE: Feist in Chicago (Re: 100% non-Ecto, but I had to share (re Cream) Virtual *HUGS* to you Vickie and all my Fuzzy Blue friends! I probably have already mentioned this once or twice here but I saw Genesis with Peter Gabriel twice as well. In '73 for the Selling England tour and in '75 for The Lamb (my #1 concert ever and I feel I have seen a lot of great shows). I have only missed one of Peter's solo tour appearances in the Bay Area. I probably told this story here before too. I had tickets for Peter's first solo tour with Dusty Rhodes (aka Robert Fripp. Happy's distant cousin!?!) in the band. The tickets were on my birthday in 1977. I was violently ill with the flu and had to sacrifice the tickets. Arrrggggghhhhhh! I have never seen Cream but have seen Clapton several times and saw Jack Bruce (I believe it was with Ringo's All Star Band). He did some kick ass versions of several Cream songs and an amazing performance of The Beatles "Golden Slumbers". Billi and I have seen both Yes and The Moody Blues over two dozen times. Billi and I were just newlyweds when we saw the 'Close to the Edge" tour in '72. No Bruford. Allan White had just joined the band. The second show I ever saw was Jethro Tull and Fairport Convention at the Fillmore West in '69. Billi and I saw a lot of the great early Pink Floyd shows (DSOTM, WYWH, Animals). I know, I'm a BOF! At least I never had to trudge through five miles of knee deep snow to see any of these artists. ;-) Oh! and as far as Kate is concerned, does it count that I nearly have wore out my copy of "Kate Bush Live at the Hammersmith Odeon" video. I just recently transferred it to DVD-R to preserve it. And... I got to see Happy once at EFW. So I am jealous of you folks on the East Coast that have seen Happy a number of times. I truly hope that I can see her again! I was listening to Find Me Sampler again today. I just really feel it is brilliant! I get chills up the spine a lot when listening to it and that is a sure sign (at least to me) that I am hearing something special! Love to you all! Bill P.S. - I have been really bad about updating the Blog on Billi. I just put up a quick update. Billi is making solid progress. Vickie wrote: We'll just stand here with our hands held out. Has anyone here seen the band Musical Box? They are a Genesis tribute band that does extremely authentic versions of the 1973 to 1975 era Genesis tours. They really pay attention to detail of the music and the stage sets, lighting and costumes. They are officially sanctioned by the Genesis classic line-up members and have been joined on stage at various times by Collins, Hackett and Rutherford. They tour primarily in the Eastern US and Canada and some in Europe. I guess they were here in the SF in December of 2004. I totally missed that! ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V11 #133 ***************************
