(Background: Something in him is ?) It could happen to me too (Background: ...? It could happen to me too) Can't wait to get home and listen to the tracks with the lyrics in front of me now! Great job. Oh...and I also made the immediate connection between "Find Me" and "Mother Sea". Both have that ethereal beauty that is to be savoured. I think MS is the superior track, as I think that's one of the best HTR compositions to date, but that's like saying chocolate fudge is better than chocolate brownies in my world...:) Lisa ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Mar 2005 09:23:12 -0600 From: Doug Subject: Re: Russian Jewish Goddess sighting What, you wait until 2 hours before the show to tell us?!?! It just so happens that she's on tour, and last night was her first date, here in Seattle. The show was late, starting after 11, but it was worth it. She has such an interesting voice - powerful, mesmerizing, and at times otherworldly. Her voice was definitely the most interesting thing about the music, which was enjoyable but fairly standard pop/rock electronica. Her outfit was interesting too - a top hat, tall, thick-soled boots, and a slinky black and silver dress over a 6 1/2 months pregnant belly. (She joked that if we'd ever wondered what Santa Claus looked like in a dress, now we knew.) She sang in English and French, but I particularly liked the songs without lyrics (at least understandable ones) where she just used her voice as another instument. She had 2 guys with her working the electronics and occasionally playing guitar and bass. There were also accompanying video projections. She said she's been having a lot of fun doing covers lately, and she did at least 3 last night: "Nights in White Satin," "Lolita Nie En Bloc" (both of which are on her album) and the Kinks' "You Really Got Me." A good show. Check her out! Alas, she does not seem to be going to DC. I agree that her wordless songs are the best--her made up language is fun and joyful (as opposed to Liz Fraser's ethereality and Lisa Gerrard's mysteriousness). It had the lyrics "how do you love me" and "all I ever do is make you cry". Google isn't much help, but someone here must know what it was... Two CDs that should be of interested to the ecto community are Anassane (ethno-electronica with a strong African feel--featuring the beautiful (wordless?) voice of percussionist Cecile Rabhi), and Dawn Desiree, an opera singer who's moved into electronic/neoclassical/darkwave territory). More info is at Heathen Harvest. Cheers, Craig n.r., Shadow of the Wind, by Zafon Yahoo! Just received the Mushroom Records update of this 1988 Australian classic, and I feel compelled to plug it. The addition of the B-side "Hellbent Heaven" and remixes of "Breakaway" (formerly known as "I Can't Break Away," which for better or worse you may recall from the soundtrack of _Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure_) and "Hungry Town" have made a terrific album even better. If you love melody and/or great drumming, and if the concept of a seven-person band in which five members play drums/percussion, five sing, one plays harmonica, one plays keyboards, and there's not a guitar in sight is even vaguely appealing to you, then this is definitely your album. I'd expound further on the topic of how much I love it, but it might be embarrassing. Ethan ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V11 #67 **************************
