(I've not seen his name come up here before - if it did, I missed it!) I just picked up Antony's new album, "I am a Bird Now", and it's a wonderful creation. Who knows how long these following links will remain active, but, for now, they lead to a song off Antony's last disc: Cripple and the Starfish http://mp3.insound.com/download.cfm?mp3id=2213 and a pair of tracks off his new album: Hope There's Someone http://mp3.insound.com/download.cfm?mp3id=2389 Fistful of Love http://woodentop.net/lonesomemusic/antony_and_the_johnsons-fistful_of_love.mp3 enjoy, Adrian ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 9 Mar 2005 16:39:20 -0700 From: neal copperman Subject: CD cataloging For years I have maintained my CD library information in a program called Audiofile, which was a great cataloging program for the Mac. Unfortunately, they have discontinued it, so it's never going to be OSX compliant or move into the future. Needless to say, I've been interested in the sporadic discussions about programs that occasionally show up here. How happy have people been with Delicious Library? It looks like one of those programs that is stunningly beautiful, but I'm not convinced that it is a great catalog program. I'm less interested in a seamless melding of my music with the entire Amazon store, and more interested in the ability to catalog, sort and search what I have. In that mind, I recently discovered MyMusic Personal Librarian (for the Mac and PC). It doesn't have the elegance of DL, or even Audiofile for that matter. It seems to be just straight forms. And while it is not that pretty, it seems to be a lot more functional then DL. Has anyone used it? Any thoughts on this, DL or any other cataloging programs for the Mac? (I know it wasn't that long ago that we had this discussion, but this program didn't get mentioned then.) Check out http://www.computer-dynamics.com/MyMusicindex.html to see the program yourself. neal ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 9 Mar 2005 18:35:42 -0800 (PST) From: Vickie Mapes Subject: Find Me Sampler (song snippets) So, hey, why isn't anyone talking about the Find Me sampler? Do people really hate it/think it's blah/like it ok but find it isn't worth discussing/love it but are like me and don't think they're articulate enough to do the wonderful songs justice? I'm just curious. It's kinda bizarre when people are talking about it and trying to figure out the lyrics on a song-by-song basis on a *Kate Bush* site, yet the silence is overwhelmingly deafening on the Happy Rhodes mailing list. Something's wrong with that. Everyone who ordered the CD has the CD. C'mon guys. She's been working on these songs for years, recording bits and pieces on a "when the money's available" basis. To know that no one's discussing it (not that she reads Ecto, but she knows. I told her) has gotta be...I don't know, she hasn't said anything and I wouldn't want to assign feelings to her, but if it were me, it'd hurt or at least be disappointing. You're wonderful folks, and I hate to put a guilt trip on you, but I thought you might need some prodding. Unlike me, many of you are very articulate and can describe music very well. This is going to sound a bit pissy, but I mean it more matter-of-fact (ok, and a with a touch of confused disappointment). Just in case anyone ever starts talking about the music on the Find Me sampler, and just in case anyone who didn't buy the CD starts getting curious about what the songs sound like because of that talk, these URLs might come in handy. They're short snippets of all the songs. Happy doesn't want full songs shared at the time, and I respect that. This isn't the order they appear on the CD. These are roughly in order of my favorites, which is fairly meaningless because I love them all. Poor Chosen One and Can't Let Go, I love them both, but something had to be listed last. With the first 2, it just depends on which one I'm listening to as to which is my absolute favorite. I'm shocked no one has talked about "Find Me" (the song) yet. Isn't it one of the most gorgeous and sad pieces of music you've ever heard? (Have the Kate fans on the list not figured out the lyrics yet? I expected some reaction there.) "She Won't Go" is pure Happy Rhodes, and explains more about who she is than just about any other song she's ever written (especially coupled with "Can't Let Go" and "One and Many" you get a mini psychological biography). I think "Here and Hereafter" is one of the best love songs I've ever heard, but even it has a touch of edge and sadness to it. "Charlie" is about Charles Crumb, but there's much more to it than that. "The Chosen One" (which should be subtitled "The Bridesmaids Song") seems to be the odd one out, but as Happy said in concert, sometimes she just wants to be a normal girl. Heaven forbid! Not all of the snippets start at the beginning of the song. http://www.wretchawry.com/happy/snippets/HappyRhodes_FindMeSAMPLE.mp3 http://www.wretchawry.com/happy/snippets/HappyRhodes_SheWontGoSAMPLE.mp3 http://www.wretchawry.com/happy/snippets/HappyRhodes_OneAndManySAMPLE.mp3 http://www.wretchawry.com/happy/snippets/HappyRhodes_HereAndHereafterSAMPLE.mp3 http://www.wretchawry.com/happy/snippets/HappyRhodes_FallSAMPLE.mp3 http://www.wretchawry.com/happy/snippets/HappyRhodes_CharlieSAMPLE.mp3 http://www.wretchawry.com/happy/snippets/HappyRhodes_CantLetGoSAMPLE.mp3 http://www.wretchawry.com/happy/snippets/HappyRhodes_TheChosenOneSAMPLE.mp3 Vickie (without access to her computer for a while. Do people > really hate it/think it's blah/like it ok but find it isn't worth > discussing/love it but are like me and don't think they're articulate > enough to do the wonderful songs justice? well, actually, it's (a) I've been too busy and (b) I still haven't figured out all the lyrics (though I actually, yesterday, started writing a simple mac application to help me do transcriptions). A few weeks ago, I had an interesting thought about "The Chosen One," "Can't Let Go," and "Here and Hereafter" as a triptych describing the movement from the end of a relationship to an entirely new, different, and better one. But I wanted to write it up with lyrics, and, well, I was busy! No, really! One thing I *did* take the time to do, a week or so ago, was check out the backward-masked lyric in "One and Many", which appears at about 2:20. I guess I was hoping for something a little more than just a repeat of the main lyric of the song..."That I am one and many / is at the heart of my disease. / Yet I am one and many." I'm trying to remember if Happy has ever put anything else backward in one of her mixes, other than the "I fight to the death / I fight" that's in "Warpaint." Anyone know? But mostly, I just keep listening to the EP over and over again. And again. Like, y'know, today at work. Oh. And yesterday. I think the day before as well. And pretty much every day of the previous week. Oh, and all those times it comes up on the ipod, too. This is killer stuff. Is it MWABT good? I dunno...frankly, I think it'd be impossible to top that. But it's also gotten me going back and listening to the 1st4 again...which I think is one of the most important aspects of the EP: there's stuff on here that really evokes some of the older material (Oh, and Vickie, I think that "Here and Hereafter" was what made you initially compare the EP to BtC). Vickie, what were you talking about with respect to "Find Me" and Kate fans? Is the suggestion that the song is intended as an addition to _The Ninth Wave_? I mean, the lyrics would seem to make that connection ("floating, I've been here for days / trying to keep the beat with my feet") Anyway, thanks for prodding, Vickie...I'm sure I'll be posting more, and maybe this will get others to do so as well... jeff ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V11 #65 **************************
