The article has photos of the house, and an open house is scheduled for Sunday. I wish I had the cash handy, the house looks beautiful. ==> Valerie ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 25 Feb 2005 22:58:32 -0500 From: "JoAnn Whetsell" Subject: new tori amos/julia fordham Any thoughts on The Beekeeper now that it's been officially released? I didn't get into Scarlet's Walk until the 5th listen, and since then it's been one of my favorite albums. I've only listened to Beekeeper 1 1/2 times, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed and my mouth shut. I will say I agree that most of the songs are mellow and laidback, like 1000 Oceans or Your Cloud, at least in tempo. I've listened to Julia Fordham's first live album, That's Live, 3 times now, so I can write an enthusiastic review and tell all her fans to go buy it. Why? It's just a really good live album. The song selection is great. Half the tracks come from _Porcelain_ and _Concrete Love_, her two best albums in my opinion. The rest are pulled about equally from her other albums. The songs dont differ markedly from their recorded version, but they have a different vibe, those slight changes in tempo, harmonization, and instrumentation that make songs fresh in live performance. The band is tight, and some of the best moments are when they just get to jam as they do at the end of Wake Up With You and Stay. Mark Isham adds just the right amount of flourishes on trumpet. Amy Keys rich alto voice and soul-style delivery blends beautifully with Julias; just having a different voice on background vocals gives the songs a different feel. The lack of banter means you dont get a sense of Julias personality (she's very funny), but it's probably better for repeated listenings. Highly recommended. Also, Judith Owen, who does guest vocals on "Happy Ever After" is a talented jazz-flavored pop/folk piano-based singer-songwriter who has 4 albums for sale at CDBaby.
