One big selling point is the neighborhood's world-class live music clubs--except those same new buildings and high rents are driving the clubs into extinction. Luna Lounge and Fez have both announced that they're shutting down, at least for the moment, and the future of Tonic and CBGB is in doubt. ... Argh! For me, the loss of Fez is the biggest blow, since I've seen lots of great shows there (most by Susan McKeown & The Chanting House), but the idea of no CBGBs is pretty shocking too. And thanks to the folks who mentioned Thea Gilmore a while back...it took her a little while to grow on me, but I'm a convert nowadays. - --- By themselves A dozen mediocrities amount to nothing, but put them together And you have a department. -- Tom Disch ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 21 Feb 2005 15:49:44 -0800 From: "JC Kammerzell" Subject: Bubbah says Hello again! I really enjoy their wriggly style. Love them. We really like both their albums and the new EP, and are looking forward to the double album. I didn't go to their last show here, but Jim and Tamar did, and said it was a amazing tour de force, the way the let songs flow on to another for a continuous set.
