Can anyone figure out what this dipshit's point is? (Pardon my French, but he is demonstrably a dipshit.) As not that huge of a Katefan, I'm able enough to laugh at the slams on both KB and her fanbase -- but only to the point that they're going somewhere, which in this case they clearly are not. There's not a word of criticism in this column of the actual album, which makes it highly tempting to believe that the dipshit hasn't actually heard it, which makes it highly tempting to wonder why the dipshit's editor thought it worthwhile to let the dipshit go on like this for 513 words. I wonder: did the dipshit feel the need to rant thus when Bowie and Jagger (whom he readily admits are at least as guilty of continuing to release music despite having grown somewhat older) made their comebacks? I bet not. Kate may be "no oracle, mystic waif, no seer, no conduit for the world of ethereal sprites" and even "first, foremost, essentially, incorrigibly, a show-off," but at least she is not a dipshit. I caught shows on Tuesday and Wednesday in tiny little venues (we're talking less than 60 capacity) where she did solo slots on both piano and guitar, and she was tremendous. Very funny between songs, and excellent song selection. She's playing stuff from the older albums as well as the current one, and the acoustic version of "Linger" is terrific, as was Nothing Sacred from Plumb. I was also lucky enough to have a chat with her for a web site that I write for and she was a delight to spend time with. http://www.cdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=1610 is the URL for that if anyone's interested, and the remaining UK tour dates are mentioned there. I can't recommend checking her out highly enough - the show at The Bedford is free admission! The UK version of "Back In The Circus" is going to be quite different, as it combines a couple of tracks from the previous album, so the track list is now :Back In The Circus, It Matters Now, Linger, Better After All, Red Dress, Everything I Wanted, Steady Pull, Less Than Love Is Nothing, Sleeping With The Light On, Sally and No Net Below. I think it's a shame they've lost the cover of God Only Knows, but apparently they want to introduce her over here as a songwriter and so omitted the covers. Headlining on Tuesday was a Kiwi act called Brooke Fraser, www.brookefraser.com and I find it hard to imagine I'll ever get the chance to see her in a 60 person cellar ever again. She's got charm to burn and some great songs. I think she's still in the UK, so if you can get any tickets, she's definitely worth checking out. Can anyone figure out what this dipshit's point is? Well, I think his point is just that sometimes it good to know when to quit. Bowie and Jagger are his examples of this, and his other point is that the same might be true for Kate Bush. Frankly I have a suspicion this will indeed turn out to be the case, if only because things proceeded by such build-up almost inevitably end up not living up to the hype... But since I don't get paid for writing about it, I mostly keep my mouth shut until her record actually comes out. > There's not a word > of criticism in this column of the actual album, which makes it highly > tempting to believe that the dipshit hasn't actually heard it Now now Ethan, that is not fair. The article never claims to be a review of the album. It is NOT about the album, so the question whether he heard it or not is completely irrelevant. I also have to admit I got a good laugh at his snark: " These people who, it's said, celebrate her birthday, or "Katemas", annually, perhaps explain why Bush has devoted much of her fortune to ensuring that at no point do they come within half a mile of her...." Ouch! :) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Feb 2005 18:43:38 -0800 From: Steve VanDevender Subject: Re: Kind of snarky Kate Bush article on the Guardian Ethan Straffin writes: > Thanks, Alan. (There is only one person who can manage 1.0 IED. Vickie could probably manage 0.5 IED if she's feeling inspired.) I recall that the response to articles like this from the old Love-Hounds gang was to send the truck with the 50,000 watt speaker system around to the writer's house and play _The Dreaming_ and _Hounds of Love_ over and over again until the writer saw the light. ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V11 #50 **************************
