Anyway....I had a feeling that instead of just crossing our arms, pouting and refusing to buy the CD, if people complained to the artist that a change might come about. My thought was that she wouldn't even know that we didn't buy the CD, but if we complain she'd sure know we were unhappy about it. Well, she has re-released it copy-protect free. She even suggests returning the "defective" copies. In her newsletter she said this: Hello, Happy belated '05 to everyone out there in computer land. I get to start this new year off with a bit of good news: my record, On Your Shore, is finally available in a non-copyright protected format. This is good news because I know many of you out there have experienced problems listening on your computer, importing the music into your iPod, and on and on and on. I hope some of you who returned your copies as defective, or even perhaps threw them out the window of your moving car will come back and experience the album as it was intended - frustration free. As you know, the ever-expanding world of technology is changing the way music is bought, sold, listened to, etc. so a big thank you to everyone who stuck around while some of the unexpected kinks were worked out. Xoxo and see you soon, Charlotte I had a feeling that it was not her decision and/or she was powerful enough to make a change. Good for her!! So go get the CD if you haven't, it's really really good. :) ~~Amy Lotsberg Producer, Collected Sounds - a Guide to Women in Music www.collectedsounds.com [demime 0.97c-p1 removed an attachment of type application/ms-tnef which had a name of winmail.dat] ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Jan 2005 23:01:31 -0500 From: "JoAnn Whetsell" Subject: good news from charlotte martin! I apologize if this has been posted already, but given the earlier discussion about the copy protection on Charlotte's full-length debut album, On Your Shore, I thought people would want to know that a non-copy protected version is now available. It really is a wonderful album, and I hope that some people who wouldn't buy it with copy protection will try it now. A year and a half or 2 ago I bought a Philips 766 CD-R. It worked ok and the copy protection deal was handled by any second copy was processed analog instead of digital. -I- can't hear the difference on a 0ne generation. It started acting up and I went to the net. I was lucky, others had it act the same way the first week or month. I then acquired a KLH CD-R - without checking the net first. I may join a class-action: there are a lot of p'ed KLH buyers.8-) No-one can get them to work. Their surly phone reps will tell you not to use cheap cdr discs. They consider TDK 'cheap'. Now, I can go SONY or something called ION if I want to shop in town, but, I also see some CD-R HDs out there: contains a hard drive that can record 120 CDs and let you do all kinds of edits before doing the actual recording. This HD will not compress so some say it is a warmer recording and others say damn, I can't record MP3s. Anyone else have a non-computer CDR set-up? bye, KrW I'm Peter Pan! I'm perpetually young!! OW!! What's wrong with my back? ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V11 #16 **************************
