Beth has written songs for Joss Stone & Jane Birkin, collaborated with David Steele & Rodrigo Leao and also written a film soundtrack for a French film "L'Annulaire" - more about all this at www.bethgibbons.com Geoff & Adrian have been producing a new album for 'The Coral' which will be released on Delltasonic in Spring 2005. And they have all been working on tracks for a new Portishead album. Work on this will continue next year and we expect the album to be completed by the end of 2005. We'll be posting regular updates next year - thank you all for your patience: we appreciate your support." I don't know how much CDs cost in England, but the price is horribly over-inflated here in the states, as I'm sure you're aware. I'd like to be able to give the artist the money they earn and just get high-quality mp3s or a home-burned CD of the music. Just a thought, I might be rambling about something inconceivable through modern technology. A: I can almost guarantee it! I have taken a completely insane decision to get another HUGE loan and fund this myself! YIKES....I must have a screw loose. NO record company this time round at least until the money runs out then I may well have to go back groveling to a record company to help me carry on...but for now I am hopefully, realistically optimistic about this. I'll be filling you all in as I go along...may even make a little homemade documentary about the journey of finding and roping in a team of great people to getting it to the shops and onto people's ipods and coffee tables. Got me a wee video camera for Christmas and birthday (thankyou guys!!). Well it will be coming out on a label of some sorts... my label...Megaphonic Records...oh yes....I am excited! wish me luck!! Q: imogen - I wrote in my other email asking you about your 'indie' status - your records are out on a major label, but your recording setup and the fact that you mortgaged your flat to pay for your next record indicates that you're not being subsidized by them. how does that work for you? A: I was until this record funded by record companies to make records but I decided I could gather enough money to make this one on my own in my own studio, so i did. I bought a flat four years ago and to my amazement it had almost doubled in price so I drew money against the equity to fund the making of the album and now I've got a HUGE mortgage as a result but I LOVE the album and putting everything I own on the line is well worth it...I guess until i loose it all i'll feel like this anyway...fingers permanently tightly crossed. I get bits and bobs in from PRS and every time a song of mine is placed in a TV program, advert, film etc i get money from that too. The better the album goes the more people will want to place it in their film etc... Though there are people like the OC guys and Six feet Under who just want to have something in there because they love it. I like those kinda peeps! Keeps me in marmite and sweet chili sauce.
