I've been trying to think what my best of the year list would be. I did buy quite a bit of music, but overall it was quite a slim year for treasures. Bjork's Medulla without a doubt is number one. From there it's a little more difficult to sort out. I liked a lot of things but only loved a few. Carina Round would be on the list but I bought her disc last year.) Some of these I don't know (nor care much) when they were released. I only know I bought them this year. Stuff that knocked me out this year: Bjork - Medulla Regina Spektor - Soviet Kitsch (though it was available in 2003 I didn't get it then because it was out of stock) Jesca Hoop - Sketch Work Songs (an unofficial demo release) Inner - lovetheonlyway (is this 2003? No year listed) Fiery Furnaces - Blueberry Board Gabriel Yacoub - je vois venie (live) Lais - Douce Victime Stuff I liked a lot: Rasputina - Frustration Plantation Mudville - the glory of man is not in vogue PJ Harvey - Uh Huh Her (not quite as great as her other albums) KUMA - The Moment of Silence Before a Disaster Elysian Fields - Dreams that Breathe Your Name Fiest - Let it Die (uneven, but with great moments) Kristeen Young - X Emily Bezar - Angel's Abacus Chloe Day - the return of... Katell Keineg - High July (some great moments, but parts of it I'm not wild about) Kathryn Williams - Relations - --Neile - -- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- neile@drizzle.com / neile@sff.net .... http://www.sff.net/people/neile Editor, The Ectophiles' Guide to Good Music . http://www.ectoguide.org Workshop Administrator, Clarion West ...... http://www.clarionwest.org ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Dec 2004 08:33:34 -0800 (PST) From: Craig Gidney Subject: Re: A sign of the Second Coming?!?!!!! But I kind of think today we might find she's just one of many... wait and see, I guess. I'm not holding my breath to tell you the truth. She was gone for so long I got quite used to her absence. ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V10 #353 ***************************
