I also loved Keane but forgot about them when I put up the honorable mention-signed: Male and I instead chose William Shatner because to be honest I listen to that one more than Keane. Very impressed that you mixed on Adiranne's CD, I love it!! I split mine up into Indie and Label groups because I could not decide and didn't want to mix them up. I just saw that Rhino is going to re-issue all of the Cure CD's, giving them the fantastic treatment they gave the old Echo and the Bunnyman discs. I've just finished acquiring all the Echo, and they are great! Excellent booklets and packaging, and chock full of interesting extras. And now they are starting in on the Cure. Just released is Three Imaginary Boys, their debut LP that was never released in the US. Many tracks showed up on their US debut, Boys Don't Cry, but I have a tape of TIB, and it's always had a special place in my heart for some of the odd, quirky moments that don't show up anywhere else (like the cover of "Foxy Lady"). Just thought there might be others who would feel the same way. I've also picked up some nicely re-packaged The The discs, though they don't have extras. Oh yeah, and congrats to Eliza Gilkyson for her Grammy nomination. I think she's a dark horse in the best contemporary folk album category, but she has my vote, though I think Patty Griffin will win. (And having Steve Earle and ani difranco in there makes it pretty tough competition!) neal ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Dec 2004 20:08:48 -0500 From: Michael Curry Subject: Kristin Hersh solo dates Kristin Hersh solo shows, for those interested.... >January, 2005 > >21 + 22 chicago, il - schuba's >23 cleveland, oh - beachland >25 + 26 philadelphia, pa - tin angel >27 fall river, ma - narrows center for the arts >28 boston, ma - paradise >29 + 30 nyc, ny - joe's pub > >We'd love to see y'all out there...Also look for more dates headng south >and then west coming in early february! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Dec 2004 23:14:53 -0500 From: meredith Subject: RE: top 10 of the year and other things Hi, Amy listed: >Driving North by Chris Pureka I saw/heard Chris and her band for the first time a couple months ago when Rachael opened for her in Worcester, MA. She was really impressive, and her CD became frequent listening in the van. I got to see (and run the soundboard for :) her last night when she did the open mic feature at The Space, just up the street from our house. She was solo last night, and I think I prefer her that way -- for one thing, it was easier to decipher her lyrics. Her music will be right up the alley of Melissa Ferrick fans -- she's not as in-your-face, but there is definitely a shared sensibility there. She's very reminiscent of Pamela Means, too (in fact, there's a big testimonial from Pamela on the front page of her web site, www.chrispureka.com). (Chris is opening for Rachael in Binghamton, NY this Saturday -- so if anyone is lurking out there in the Southern Tier, come on by the Cyber Cafe West at 9:00 for a fun night of music. :) >Give In by Anne Heaton This is going to be high up on my list, too (yes, I am actually going to do a list this year!).
