As usual from Kate, it's very light on details prior to the release. The only real information is that the album will contain orchestral movements by Michael Kamen. When I saw Ember at Folk Alliance, she struck me as an exciting original, with only a hint of ani to her. Her sets (and I saw her twice because I was so taken with her), were exciting and varied. She was probably my favorite discovery at the last FA. I haven't picked up any CD's to see how they compare though. On the flip-side, my one experience with Pamela didn't excite me nearly as much. She had ani's energy in her playing, but I didn't feel the same sort of connection. For me, ani always seems sort of freewheeling, ricocheting around, with her guitar coming close to veering out of control, but always staying within some ill defined bounds. Pamela had that energy, but it seemed more focused, and ended up feeling a bit relentless and ultimately, tiresome to me. I've only seen her once, in a large theater, so perhaps that wasn't the best introduction. (I don't have any of her CD's either.) neal ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 10 Dec 2004 10:57:24 -0500 From: meredith Subject: Re: infiltration of ecto goodness -- recommendations? I haven't seen her live -- only heard a couple of her recordings, which are like listening to someone trying to recreate Ani's first couple of records and not quite getting there. She's even got the same vocal mannerisms. I have heard from several people that she's phenomenal live, though, so she is on my list to check out as soon as I get the chance. >On the flip-side, my one experience with Pamela didn't excite me nearly as >much. No, that wasn't the best introduction at all. :) Pamela does manage to be very even-keeled and frenetic all at once; her personality is quite low-key, but when she starts playing that all goes away. A smaller room is much better to experience her. Her CDs, by the way, are a much better indication of what she's capable of. They don't exactly capture the feel of her live performances, but they're better than most. =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== hear at the HOMe House Concert Series http://hom.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 10 Dec 2004 08:08:30 -0800 From: Nadyne Mielke Subject: Re: New Kate Bush album info At 04:41 AM 12/10/2004, Simon Barker wrote: >For those not on the Kate Bush Club's mailing list, their latest newsletter >says that "The album is nearly finished now and will be out next year". I have two Ember Swift albums--Stiltwalking and her brand new one. While I hadn't really thought of the Ani comparisons, I can definitely see them now that you mention it. They both do very political, funky tunes. Neither album comes cfose to her live performances. - -------------- Original message from meredith : -------------- > Hi, > > Neal responded: > > >Hmm, that's interesting. It's interesting how we can have different reactions to an artist, and they are sincere and genuine... we even give the artist our undivided attention, yet two of us may have completely different reactions to the same artist... guess we each have different tastes. :) In my case I loved Pamela from the very first song back in 1998, and I have seen her all over the country, from Maine and Massachusetts to Colorado, Washington, Oregon and California. In many ways she is my favorite artist, and I know dozens and dozens of artists personally, yet she is one of the most important artists I know. I remember we instantly hit it off and quickly became close friends, I am sometimes startled at the speed with which we became close... sometimes we traveled for hundreds of miles together, going to her next gig, and she has visited me at my home too. While you may hear her music as "much like Ani" (and I am a big Ani fan), her music is definitely all her own, she is not intentionally copying anyone's style. Yes, she is better in a smaller setting, yet when she was at Falcon Ridge a few years ago, she was voted the "artist most desired back next year" by the largest number of people ever, voting for her return. Yet she may not be your taste in music, and that is perfectly acceptable, we each have our own tastes... but you may find another setting a better experience. - -- John ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 Dec 2004 01:44:12 +0000 From: jjhanson@att.net Subject: New Kate Not that you can believe everything you read on the web, but there does seem to be a bit of truth to the rumor that a new album is planned--whether it will actually occur is another story.... http://homepage.eircom.net/~twoms/katenews.htm ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 10 Dec 2004 19:16:23 -0800 From: Greg Bossert Subject: Re: New Kate On Dec 10, 2004, at 5:44 PM, jjhanson@att.net wrote: > [...] http://homepage.eircom.net/~twoms/katenews.htm wackiest quote from the above KaTe news site: > Antwan "Big Boi" Patton, half of the superstar duo Outkast, told > reporters backstage at the recent American Music Awards that they > hoped to have a new album out by June and also revealed a desire to > work with "reclusive English singer Kate Bush".
