Hmmmm, Dadafon or Krxyt (both norwegian bands) would be right down that road. To continue the norwegian thing - Ane Brun, perhaps? She is living in Sweden, but is from an island west of where I live. I agree with the people mentioning Noe Venable's latest which has been quite a hit on my radio show. The same has Pamela Means' Single Bullet Theory which is another album worth trying out. - -- Yngve ****************************************** * One alien has come, unalien to one ***** ****************************************** ***** Blessed be!!! ********************** ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 09 Dec 2004 11:14:13 -0500 From: meredith Subject: Re: infiltration of ecto goodness -- recommendations? Hi, Yngve recommended: >The same has Pamela Means' Single >Bullet Theory which is another album worth trying out. I would try Pamela Means on an Anifan before Michelle Shocked, but then again Michelle's first couple albums (_Texas Campfire Tapes_ and _Short Sharp Shocked_) are very much in the vein. I'm sure Pamela is sick of the Ani comparisons by now, but they are real -- she plays the guitar in the same style (right down to the press-on nails secured with electrical tape), and is damned good at it, too. I wouldn't put her in the "Ani clone" category (where folks like Ember Swift firmly reside), but I know she appeals to folks who really dig what Ani does. Heck, to narrow things down you could just start by introducing your friend to ecto artists who have opened for Ani. :) Pamela Means, Noe Venable, Rachael Sage, Erin McKeown ... =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== hear at the HOMe House Concert Series http://hom.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 09 Dec 2004 19:04:52 +0000 From: Adam K Subject: infiltration of ecto goodness -- recommendations Well, as always, I put forward Thea Gilmore, figuring if she likes the committed wordplay of Ani, she might just go for it. Tender Hooks (2000, released 2004) The latter two are available at CD Baby: http://www.cdbaby.com/hollypalmer/from/paulschreiber http://www.cdbaby.com/hollypalmer2/from/paulschreiber Tender Hooks was in prerelease when it got canned. Holly eventually got it back from her label and self-released it this year, a mere two months after releasing I Confess. That's good to know. I have the first two and I was wondering how the other are. I like "Rules for Jokers" WAY better than the other one (which I've now forgotten the name of) I love "...Jokers" though. Ani's stuff is very modern singer-songwriter and seems to owe more to punk in attitude than tradition, while Michelle Shocked's material has more old-timey down-home roots, and has gotten only more so over time. Of course, they're both capable of bringing on the brass. - --Neile - -- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Neile Graham .... neile@sff.net/@drizzle.com ... www.sff.net/people/neile Les Semaines: A Weekly Journal ........ www.sff.net/people/neile/semaines Editor, The Ectophiles' Guide to Good Music ........... www.ectoguide.org Workshop Administrator, Clarion West ................ www.clarionwest.org ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V10 #338 ***************************
