BLAST! but it was either buy the CD or buy dinner being the poor art student that was.... grrr. anyway the CD has been out of print forever and i can't seem to track down a legit way to get it (other than paying $25 for a used copy, which i can't justify). Why doesn't iTUNES have out of print/rarities in it's catalog? grrr.... any help would be faboo. and any suggestions for holiday music to put in the mix would be muchly appreciated as well.... currently tracklists include holiday/winter songs by JANE SIBERRY, KATE BUSH, TORI AMOS, FOUNTAINS OF WAYNE, WEEZER, LOW, SAINT ETIENE, GRANDADDY, BELLE AND SEBASTIAN, IVY, LISA LOEB, DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE, HOLLY COLE, EVERYTHING BUT THE GIRL, GRENADINE, as well as selections from the A VERY SPECIAL CHRISTMAS, an ULTRA LOUNGE CHRISTMA, and other random classic standards as filler. i'm probably going to burn an MP3 CD and just put it on random through my DVD player for the duration of the party. so i have lots of room. any other suggestions? irvin ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 08 Dec 2004 04:40:59 -0600 From: "Xenu's Sister" Subject: Re: holiday music request Gotcha covered for the Cocteau Twins: http://equipoise.teemingmillions.com/CocteauTwins_Snow_WinterWonderland.mp3 http://equipoise.teemingmillions.com/CocteauTwins_Snow_FrostyTheSnowman.mp3 If you or anyone elses want Mary Margaret O'Hara's Christmas EP, here it is: http://equipoise.teemingmillions.com/MaryMargaretOHara_ChristmasEP01_BlueChristmas.mp3 http://equipoise.teemingmillions.com/MaryMargaretOHara_ChristmasEP02_SilentNight.mp3 http://equipoise.teemingmillions.com/MaryMargaretOHara_ChristmasEP03_WhatAreYouDoingNewYearsEve.mp3 http://equipoise.teemingmillions.com/MaryMargaretOHara_ChristmasEP04_ChristmasEvermore.mp3 Here are 3 from a compilation called Winter Warnerland: http://equipoise.teemingmillions.com/ThrowingMuses_WinterWarnerland_Santa.mp3 http://equipoise.teemingmillions.com/DanielleDax_WinterWarnerland_BlueChristmas.mp3 http://equipoise.teemingmillions.com/HugoLargo_WinterWarnerland_AngelsWeHaveHeardOnHigh.mp3 (might be a bit laid back) I'll be taking all these down before the end of the year, so get 'em while they're hot. This one is Canadian though, mixing Irish and Quebecois in a neat blend. I've got a friend I'd like to corrupt towards some fine music. She's a modern girl, enjoying all those trendy bands like Death Cab for Cutie, Interpol, Earlimart, the Flaming Lips, and the Postal Service. Her most ectopic tastes would probably be early Bjork and a deep love of Ani DiFranco (even most of her new stuff). With this as a base, I've considered feeding her some Veda, some PJ Harvyey, perhaps some Michelle Shocked. Two come to mind: Milla J (www.millaj.com) and Marina V (www.marinav.com). They're both melodic yet edgy. Music with a bit of attitude that doesn't wear out after a few listens. Milla J. has two albums, "The Divine Comedy" and "The Peopletree Sessions," which are quite different from each other. "The Divine Comedy" is more traditionally Ecto (if there is such a thing), while "The Peopletree Sessions" has a electronic sound to it. Some of Marina V.'s songs have a touch of goth, which helps impart a alluring mood to her songs. - --Bill n.p. Hi, OK, so I have no clue what this site is about or what orifice they're pulling their information out of, but this link lists a release date of 14 March 2005 for Kate Bush's as-yet-to-be-titled new album. Of course I'm not going to believe this until the CD is not only in my hands but has been purchased, driven home, ripped onto the iPod and listened to three times... but FWIW there ya go. =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== hear at the HOMe House Concert Series http://hom.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 08 Dec 2004 23:09:15 -0500 From: meredith Subject: Re: infiltration of ecto goodness -- recommendations? I'd feed her some Veda too. And then, since your list is on the "beautiful and fierce" end of the spectrum (though I'd be wary which Michelle Shocked I started her with, YMMV very much with her stuff from album to album), I'd visit and make my way down the list. :) Enjoy yourself!! Do you folks have any ideas? PJ Harvey and Veda definitely. Michelle Shocked may be too folkie for her. There's always Ultralash, Carina Round, Inner, Regina Spektor, Fiery Furnaces, Noe Venable's latest, Chloe Day, Sleator-Kinney, Kristin Hersh, Kat Terran, Cat Power's latest along the indie line. Alas, Death Cab, Interpol, and the Postal Service have invaded our house, too. - --Neile - -- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Neile Graham .... neile@sff.net/@drizzle.com ... www.sff.net/people/neile Les Semaines: A Weekly Journal ........ www.sff.net/people/neile/semaines Editor, The Ectophiles' Guide to Good Music ........... www.ectoguide.org Workshop Administrator, Clarion West ................ www.clarionwest.org ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V10 #337 ***************************
