You won't find the wild experimentation of "16mm" here, and a lot of the over the top atmospheres of her first album have been toned down. Instead, there are lovely songs that dip into jazz and classical. As a lyricist--she collaborates here with Simon Wilcox--favors somewhat fantastic imagery (particularly in "Blue Planet"), but there is a definite forced quality to some of the words. She also has a collaboration with Lisa Germano, who provides the best lyrics--Germano's typical self-precating style. Jorane's vocals are still wonderful, and her cello-playing is still awe-inspiring, but the work is more integrated to the whole. (No flashy solos or unnecessary vocal acrobatics). The album is produced by Michael Brook, and at its best, it has the elegant flavor of Brook's classic "Sleeps with Fishes" album with Pieter Nooten. Jorane's new album would fill nicely between Kate Bush and Jane Siberry. - --Craig __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Read only the mail you want - Yahoo! I like the ep easily as much as the full length albums. The covers are cleverly arranged and are some great songs. They include Deeper Well (Emmylou Harris), Sylvie (Leadbelly) and Bring 'Em All In (Waterboys). I highly recommend it. The individual Jennys have CD's too, but I haven't heard them At 9:34 AM +1030 12/6/04, Lloyd, Bronwyn (NWAHS) wrote: >Same here - I heard them accidentally on ABC Classic FM (Australia) and >haven't had them off the cd player since!
