What a co-incidence that CD just arrived yesterday in my mail. I listened to it once, it has an operatic quality. This is the first CD of hers I have ever purchased. I think Heaven to Pay is my favorite after a brief listening. sherry Date: Wed, 24 Nov 2004 01:49:37 -0500 From: "JoAnn Whetsell" Subject: RE: Best of 2004 I was just thinking about that today and realized I have over 30 2004 releases to choose from. Part of KaTe's Wuthering Heights was heard by myself as I set up part of a promo. Our New Zealand Ectos will know her. It will probably be aired during Pledge Week at your local PBS station, CYLL. I work for 'em so I'm biased, but, even a single $5 or $10 once if you sometime catch good stuff now again will help: all TV stations (not just PBS) had to buy Digital equipment and run both the old and new until the Gov't says to shut off the old in '97. Pledge pitch over, now. bye, ps: I just Googled her name with the word Heights and there is a page of lyrics with no sign of KaTe Bush's name. Maybe a clueless fansite? KrW I'm Peter Pan! G. Lucas himself says the plot to the first one is slow. But it was SO NEW to see it in the theater the first time, that it seemed to fly by (also I probably saw it too many times). Many Ectos in different spacetime/strata had even better special effects on TV before they saw a tape or disc of number 4 and had a different experience. We 'bring different things to the table', we have learned new and newer visual vocabularies that change all the time. I sometimes wonder if I would trade my experience of Star Wars with someone who saw the Ring trilogy without first having devoured the books. And, to end this rambling, I will quote Grandpa Simpson: "I used to be with it, but, then they changed what "it" was." bye, KrW I'm Peter Pan! I'm perpetually young!! OW!! I can recall two "pull off the road" moments: Age 31: Toy Matinee's album, played in its entirety on a rock station in Austin. (Come to think of it, this couldn't have been a literal "pull off the road", since I hadn't yet learned to drive.) Age 36: Rosanne Cash's "Western Wall" (from the "10 Song Demo" album) played on KERA in Dallas. I love seeing people have the "What is that? I must have it!" reaction when we play things in the store. From what I see, it actually happens less often with rock/pop recordings than with those in other genres. Recent instances have been with the latest albums by Judy Collins (singing Leonard Cohen), Trio Medieval, and Renee Fleming (singing Handel). At a recent all-store-employees meeting, one of the managers said something like "We work here because each of us has had his or her life changed by a book or a piece of music. Sure, we could earn more money if we worked at the Gap -- but who has had his life profoundly changed by a polo shirt?" ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V10 #324 ***************************
