They are a folk-oriented duo. Kiya Heartwood is extremely talented on the acoustic guitar and is probably more widely known from her previous band Stealin' Horses. Since the midwest Ectos often miss out on good house concert material, here is a possibility. Thanks...Lisa Wishing Chair www.wishingchair.com Updates, schedules, what's cool, what's not, this month's shows in: INDIANA, WISCONSIN and the NEW CD UPDATE! Dear Lisa, Hello, happy autumn, hello winter and may your leaves be turning beautifully and not falling. We've been in Austin, Texas where we've started recording the new cd. This is definitely what's cool and we are very happy to be getting going on it. The studio is great, we've actually been relaxed and are so grateful to be working with fabulous folks down there. We want to thank all of you who are making this possible with your kind gifts, donations and loans. We are letting you know that we are STILL accepting donations for this CD project. It will not be too late to help us out for many months to come! We will be working on it through the winter and will be releasing it this spring at our 10th Wishing Chair anniversary concert here in Lexington. We feel like your local NPR station now, but there are many ways you can help. 1. You can pre-buy the CD, at a show or off our website. 2. You can send a donation and join the ranks by becoming honorary "chairs" ... Bark-o-loungers, Recliners, Thrones, or the Wishing Chair itself. Just print the form off our website. 3. Call or write and talk to us about a loan. 4. Host a house concert or help produce a show in your town as a fundraiser. 5. Know of an organization that funds the arts? Let us know! Believe us when we say that this is a very expensive proposition. This is the first CD in the five we have made, where we have hired an outside producer (Mark Hallman is Austin's cream of the crop). Kiya can spend all her energy being a performer and not have to press buttons. And the musicians joining us are top notch; Cisco Ryder from Eliza Gilkyson's band, The Greencards and our favorite bass player, Dave Arms, are filling out the rhythm section. So, if you are so inclined, please climb aboard the Wishing Chair bus and help us get this CD out. The first of our fundrasing concerts is tomorrow night in Indianapolis at the IndyIndie Clubhouse Concerts series. It promises to be a full house so get in touch with Joyce and Cathy and reserve your seat now. Sunday's concert in Milwaukee has been postponed til a future time. We'll keep you posted. While we will be spending the winter closer to home, finishing up the CD and getting it ready to be put to bed, there are lots of show where you'll be able to see us. So, fasten your seat belts and check out a show near you. Neal, good for your persistance in offering up your energy and home to artists again and again. I bow to your persistance. Artists, with and without agents, need that. I myself don't want an agent telling me what to do and what not to do. They are only there to make money, no other reason, so they shovel you in that direction constantly. I know too many artists that do want to do smaller and "other" gigs but cannot.....once you sign that contract...but you are also right in just continueing to try...sometimes emails actually get thru. Good for you! (I wish I could get out there soon and be singing right in your livingroom, hopefully one of my bands will get their butts out of town soon...or I will solo myself even more)...myself, I love to travel, I love to visit, I love to perform in all types of venues and situations and with all types of artists, I love to see other worlds and lifestyles and be open to change, it's never been about the money or the sales...(if I have a choice of being pushy at a concert to sell cds to eat that night, or someone inviting me to dinner on the road, I will always take the dinner and the hang and forget the cds!) peace, cyoakha grace ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Nov 2004 13:49:06 -0800 From: Neile Graham Subject: Blue Nile info Can anyone help out with Blue Nile info? I have dealt with a number of agents who have been fantastic, working hard to find anchor dates for small artists and fill-in dates as well, being flexible and accomodating while looking out for the interests of the people they represent. (It is scary to me to find that our house concert can be perceived as an anchor for the region.) I have also worked as an agent a bit, and tried to do precisely that. It made it doubly clear to me how hard it is for both artists and agents on a small level to make a living. But I worked very hard to track down any acceptable gig that was more then a coffeeshop for tips, and I have seen many agents do the same thing. I just wanted to put forward the other side of the agent coin too. I think what is important is for the artist and the agent to see eye to eye on what they want to accomplish. Then they can work in a complimentary fashion. neal np: train home - chris smither ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Nov 2004 03:00:04 -0500 (EST) From: Mike Matthews Subject: Today's your birthday, friend... i*i*i*i*i*i i*i*i*i*i*i *************** *****HAPPY********* **************BIRTHDAY********* *************************************************** *************************************************************************** ****************** Jenny Bruce (goodgirl@mindspring.com) ****************** *************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- - -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Jenny Bruce Mon November 14 1966 fire-horse scorpio Dave Cook Mon November 15 1971 Scorpio Jeff Pearce November 16 Orpheus Naama Avramzon Mon November 18 1974 Scorpio Jeff Smith Mon November 19 1962 Crash Kevin Bartlett Fri November 21 1952 Scorpio with Saturn and Pluto issues Claudia Spix Wed November 23 1960 Schuetze Anja Baldo Tue November 23 1965 Garbanzo Tommy Persson Wed November 25 1964 Sagittarius Pat Tessitore November 26 Sagittarius Valerie Kraemer November 26 Sagittarius Justin Bur Fri November 27 1964 Sagittarius Sue Trowbridge Sun November 27 1966 Skytten Ward Kadel Tue November 29 1977 Sagittarius Jesse Hernandez Liwag Wed November 29 1972 Water Rat Mirko Bulaja Sat November 30 1974 Block Juha Sorva Thu December 02 1976 Sagittarius Chip Lueck Thu December 05 1968 Sagittarius Lenore December 05 sagi Michele Wellck December 08 Sagittarius Jeremy J. It's called _High_, it came out in August, and I'm deeply embarrassed to say that I haven't heard it yet. This should prompt me to get on the stick. As for _Peace at Last_, it's very nice indeed, and I think anyone who liked _Hats_ would enjoy it as well. Parts of it are almost happy, by Blue Nile standards at least -- though my personal favorite track, the ballad "Family Life," belongs on any credible list of the most beautifully sad songs ever written. glenn has a review of _Peace at Last_ at , and of the two-part CD-single of "Happiness" at . I'm not familiar with the other projects mentioned. Ethan On Nov 13, 2004, at 1:49 PM, Neile Graham wrote: > Can anyone help out with Blue Nile info?
