(Actually, Mr Bush's Secret Service > agents probably would've had Mr Kerry on the ground anyway.) i'm not going to get into a howard bashing session here, though it'd be very easy for me to do so, given my loathing of the man and all he [and his government] embodies. i don't think latham 'manhandled' howard, but i do think that a lot of the public here are poorly informed and apathetic when it comes to elections. howard played the boat people/refugee card last election, using scaremongering tactics, and this year he played the interest rates card. the sad thing? people are so dumb they actually think that by voting for howard interest rates won't rise. there are other things, too, but based on what i heard people saying at the polling booth and on public transport that week it was really disheartening, and yet hardly surprising, how very little people knew, or seemed to care. mark latham's not perfect, but this country desperately needs a change. *desperately*. howard is a dreadful prime minister alone, but howard as bush's little lap-dog is even worse. as one political commentator said not long ago, howard may as well graft his lips to bush's ass and be done with it! the cover of this week's bulletin newsweek magazine is disturbingly apt, frankly ;) http://bellyfish.persnicket.net/bulletinnewsweek.jpg heidi. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Nov 2004 23:24:56 -0800 From: upforit@telus.net Subject: Re: ecto-digest V10 #310 On 10 Nov 2004, at 22:55, ecto-digest wrote: >>> I must say my worst election nightmare has seriously >>> harshed my Ecto mellow, so most of what I've been >>> listening to is of a more aggressive variety (the >>> "Rock Against Bush" compilations This link is probably 'old news' for many of the americans on the list but for anyone who has not seen it I think this flash animation is great - and still gives me a smile - reminds me not to take the election thing tooooo seriously. To see them feels a bit like stumbling upon a strange lost film. Telling their tales with strings and piano, baritone sax and guitars, this eight piece group includes the vocals of Julia Frodahl and members of Antony & The Johnsons. "Edison Woods brings a unique mix of earthy lo-fi songs and cinematic landscapes...One can hear the lushness of Goldfrapp, the textural subtleties of The Dirty Three, the eerie qualities of Julee Cruise, and in Julia's voice the humble ponderings of Cat Power's Chan Marshall." - CD Baby Juno Award (Canada.s Grammy equivalent) winner for best new artist in 2003, Sarah Slean has just released her third album, Day One, and it.s a hit. Slean's wisest and best-realized record to date, ranging from torch light moodiness to cabaret-noir to uptempo pop, Day One communicates its central themes of ruin and rebirth while still retaining a sense of optimism and playfulness. www.sarahslean.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Nov 2004 15:52:19 -0600 From: kerrywhite@webtv.net (kerry white) Subject: Hatch's INDUCE Act Hi, I am not going to rant and rave, I am just going to ask US citizens (and anyone else interested) to Google Hatch's Induce Act and see what kind of simple things could be made un-lawful. You want wi-fi stereo in your car, as some car makers are including, you could be breaking Hatch's Law if the Act passes. bye, KrW I'm Peter Pan! I'm perpetually young!! OW!! A few weeks later I started getting a rudish message, the same message over and over from Allied Interstate, 3 times a week. I finally Googled them: collection agency w/ a BAD rep for treating people like dirt. I also had to sign up for "Do not Call" and found out I have to wait a full 3 months after registering before I can complain. They do not tell you why you MUST call. I am not a target of their client and they won't go away. So, all I can do is 'out' them. Somehow, in the present political atmosphere, this seems to fit: assh*les mess around and just plain folks have to limbo backwards around to feel unhassled. bye, KrW I'm Peter Pan!
