None of the reasons given for -going- there have been used as reasons for - -needing to be- there. Even Rumsfeild(sp) is backing off -but- [here is my point] polls show that 61% of US citizens believe Iraq was invovlved -and- 40% believe that Saddam sat down with Bin Laden to plan it. Oh, how I wish for the '50's: nobody knew what the Gov't was up to and I was a little kid (a very apolitical state of being). It was also fun looking at pre-911 clips of G Bush, Cheny and Rice, and Powel all swearing that they had "proof" followed by someone else more currently saying, "Uh, well..." bye, KrW I'm Peter Pan! If the government has its way the analog signals will stop on Jan 1st 1997. On that day "cable ready" TVs and VCRs connected to analog cable without set-top boxes, jogger radios w/ TV-audio, bath radios w/ TV sound, Tivo and DVD recorders will all stop functioning. The author of this article considers it Fraud that stores are selling analog products without telling people. CEA Consumer Electronics Association has ..." reiterated its opposition to mandatory government labels, urging that this proposal is not just based on lack of evidence that labels will help more than hurt education efforts, but because labels for sets by their nature would be cursory and uninformative". Labels would tell too many people that it was coming and these guys don't want people to know what is ahead. These are the people who are advising the US Gov about this situation. Once, the CEA people and the government decided that digital would look better and the goverment could sell the old spectrum to cell phone companies. Now, part of that spectrum will be for national emergency channels to link the country. I said "part", but I bet that is all you will be hearing about. Thanks, bye, KrW I'm Peter Pan! Voting is not a right, in my opinion, it's a duty. What we do tomorrow will affect not only our neighborhoods, not only our country, but the entire world. I'm working as an Election Protection volunteer (People for the American Way) and learned some good tips at training last night. I thought I'd pass them on. A few quick tips... 1-866-OURVOTE If you have or see any problems, call 1-866-OUR-VOTE. 1. In every state in the union, if you're in line BEFORE the polls close, they HAVE to let you vote, no matter how long the line is. If your polling place closes at 7pm, you get in line at 6:45pm, but the line is so long you don't even get to the doors until 8pm, they have to let you in. Pass the word if you hear someone saying something like "they'll be closed before I get up there." (most polling places will send a worker out with a watch, who will go to the back of the line and step in whenever the closing time is. It's their job to turn away people who get in line after them.) 2. In many, if not most, states, wearing political garb (t-shirts, buttons, stickers) into the polling place is not allowed. Don't give anyone any reason to challenge you. Take it/them off before you go in. 3. Bring ID, even if it's not necessary. In most places you can vote without ID, as long as you're registered, but don't chance it. 4. If you're newly registered but they don't have your name, you can vote by "Provisional" ballot. You need ID. Follow up. There are too many stories about people being registered by shady characters doing it for money, who then just throw away the registration cards. 5. Keep an eye out for voter suppression efforts. Call out such instances, such as jerks handing out flyers telling people that they can't vote if they have a parking ticket or are behind on the rent. Don't let them get away with it. Bring a book. (just in case). Bring an umbrella (just in case). Bring your love of democracy. Have fun!
