Driver's first major movie appearance, in which, in fact, she performs a song. the film is GoldenEye, and Minnie plays Robbie Coltrane's screeching girlfriend in a brief scene in a Russian nightclub. she "sings" _Stand by your Man_. it's a hilarious little performance, which i had vaguely remembered from when i saw the movie in the theater; i was quite surprised to recognize the actress this time around. this inspires me to a (i hope uncharacteristic) fan-boy question: anyone here hear any hot rumours regarding the third X-men movie and the Dark Phoenix plot (and ms. Janssen continuing in the role)? and what about the Joss/X3 rumours (which were started, if i recall correctly, by Guillermo Del Toro)? i guess i should search the "internets"... :-/ um, now i am going to go watch some really artsy movie. um, on Bravo or the IFC. or maybe just another CSI -- for flarks sake, they actually played David Sylvian at a key moment in an ep i caught the other day. that's artsy! :-) 'tah - -g - -- "i've never been afraid to change the circumstances of the world" - -- Happy Rhodes [demime 0.97c-p1 removed an attachment of type application/pkcs7-signature which had a name of smime.p7s] ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 9 Oct 2004 12:23:58 -0400 From: breinheimer@webtv.net (bill) Subject: odd music request I'm sure there must be a great many songs that I'm not recalling but certainly the song "Alien" from Robert Wyatt's album "Shleep" comes to mind. I also can't help but wonder whether it might be possible (and desirable) to get snippets of classic sci-fi films, perhaps off of the net, to somehow weave into the proceedings (then again, that idea might work better on the radio). Some great films, such as "The day the Earth stood still" and "Forbidden Planet" provide both aliens and robots and, yes, even alien robots. "Klaatu Barada Niktu", anyone? np:Robert Wyatt- Shleep Canterbury lives! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 9 Oct 2004 18:15:16 -0700 From: Ethan Straffin Subject: Re: William Shatner - Has Been > Michael asked: > >> Has anyone out there in ectoland gotten William Shatner's new >> album? > > I have it!! > > It was sent to me for review on my website. Ethan - -- P.S. Shatner is very funny on _Boston Legal_ -- if not as funny as James Spader -- and the fact that I'm still not quite prepared to take him seriously as a musical artist is based on painful past experiences that, yes, I should maybe get over, especially considering that I kinda like Rick Springfield's _ShockDenialAngerAcceptance_, so there goes my moral high ground. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 10 Oct 2004 01:54:49 +0000 From: "Lyle Howard" Subject: Robots and Aliens This topic may have run its course. Oh well. Was (Not Was) have a song titled "Robot Girl" on the _What Up Dog?_ album. Released at the same time as "Do the Dinosaur," it has the same techno-funk feel. An earlier song titled "Man VS the Empire Brain Building" conjures up images of Dial F for Frankenstein and the Forbes Project. It would be easy to sing, too, since the lyrics consist of the following line being repeated: "In my life there's just three things. Man versus Nature, Woman versus Man, and Man versus the Empire Brain Building." This song is on _Born to Laugh at Tornadoes_. Joe Meek put out an album called _I Hear a New World_. It is supposed to be a tour of the moon or another planet. Can't remember which. It is very Shadows/Ventures-guitar kinda music, with interesting stereo effects and sped up voices. 1950s space exotica, I suppose. It got me to thinking about what would be some great music to have at a Halloween party .So here's a dream list of freaky songs to have your next Halloween party, perhaps just a party of one.... Song Artist Album Echoes Pink Floyd Meddle Careful with that axe Eugene Pink Floyd Umma Gumma anything by early Hawkwind - eg. In the Beginning whole album Roky Erikson and the Aliens The Evil One Halloween The Dream Syndicate Days of Wine and Roses She Walks Through the Faire Fairport Convention What we did on our holidays Electric Funeral Black Sabbath Paranoid Frankenstein Edgar Winter They only come out at night Help I'm a Rock Frank Zappa & Mothers Freakout whole album Flying Saucer Attack Mirror whole album My BloodyValentine Loveless Basically you could listen to all of the above mentioned albums. I'm after Sarah Slean's new one and some French pop music. Canadian Amazon's international postage isn't as dreadful as I remember, but I like to look around :) Karen _______________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
