Actually I find it's usually worth the drive to Montreal, whether or not it's to see a show like this. Great shopping, world-class cuisine, interesting nightlife, a European-flavored joie de vivre and a 30% exchange rate...what's not to like? Sounds like a good excuse for a sick day (cough, cough). ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Sep 2004 03:00:05 -0400 (EDT) From: Mike Matthews Subject: Today's your birthday, friend... i*i*i*i*i*i i*i*i*i*i*i *************** *****HAPPY********* **************BIRTHDAY********* *************************************************** *************************************************************************** ********************* Ani DiFranco (no Email address) ********************* *************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- - -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Ani DiFranco Wed September 23 1970 Virgo Lord Tyr Mon September 24 1979 Libran Paul Kim Sat October 01 1977 fetal position JoAnn Whetsell Fri October 01 1976 Pendulum William Gill Wed October 05 1960 A wide-eyed wanderer Dan Riley Sun October 08 1961 Libra Neile Graham Wed October 08 1958 pen Quenby M. (oops, not $5) - - jessy greene: _blue sky_ - not quite sure how to describe - her word `ameritronica' is fairly appropriate. it's like a bunch of the set of 1940s? 50s? powerful women singers filtered through a very unique modern sensibility. - - kat terran: _lion and blue_ - required listening on the `beautiful and fierce' side of ecto - - kuma: _rewind_ - good groovy stuff - - needledrop: _tune in, turn on, drop out_ - ditto - - emma's mini: _beat generation mad trick_ - and again, ditto, maybe a little less tight than either of the above and of course a lot of cds that've already been discussed enough here that i don't feel any need to mention them. :) man... cdbaby must be doing well. i'm certainly doing *my* part to support their business model. - -damon - -- dl+ecto@usrbin.ca: protecting my real address since 2002 (too late!) > EWS starts here! < ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Sep 2004 19:47:27 -0400 From: "JoAnn Whetsell" Subject: RE: CD Baby order Funny you should ask. I made a big order yesterday because Katell Keineg's newest is now available, which you should look at. I also picked up the following: BETHANY YARROW: rock island ELAINE BUCKHOLTZ: horse in the window SARAH RABDAU: benevolent apollo CHELSEA BEAUCHAMP: little star NOE VENABLE: the world is bound by secret knots DAUGHTER DARLING: sweet shadows I think everyone's been mentioned here except Elaine Buckholtz. I met her while at Headlands Center for the Arts, and she gave me a copy of her second album, Dark Rodeo. It's a beautiful, haunting album, dark folk as the name implies. Elaine is a visual artist as well as a singer (and songwriter too, I believe), and she makes some of her own instruments. Sound samples at CD Baby Chelsea Beauchamp is lovely alterna-pop/folk, sweet voice. I think I heard of her here, but I don't think she's been mentioned too much. Inner is the guitar player who worked with Natalie Merchant among others. Her solo record is quite crunchy, however. Not much resemblance to Natalie Merchant at all. Good stuff... > - sarina simoom: _thread bone bare_ God, I LOVE this CD... I just do not get tired of it, ever. One of my "10 desert island disks". My last order from CDBaby included the electronica of Plink, and gentle acoustic tunes of Stephanie Dosen, whom I liked for both her lovely voice, and her cat page... ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Sep 2004 22:30:42 -0400 From: "JoAnn Whetsell" Subject: Re: CD Baby order I second (or third) the recommendation of Inner's lovetheonlyway. Neile recommended it to me a few months back, and I love it. It's one of those discs with a sound you can't quite describe and a range of styles and moods. Not a good description, but I recommend trying out sound samples for a taste.
